Light doping for fitness

Scientists are optimistic: the pills will help you always be in good shape, even for those who do not really like to bother exercising on simulators. Both drugs target a specific gene that is associated with muscle growth and muscle tone.

Experiments have shown that experimental mice, who were given a miracle drug, could run 68% more than usual. It is also surprising that the greater the distance, the more the pills increase the body’s endurance. According to scientists, the development will affect people in a similar way. Moreover, the effect of the pills does not depend on the level of physical fitness.

The head of the research team, molecular biologist Ronald Evans, said he hoped the drug, if approved, could be a substitute for exercise for sedentary or bedridden patients.

However, doctors fear that fitness pills can be abused by athletes who want to achieve success in competitions at all costs. To avoid this, scientists have invented a test that will determine the presence of drugs in human urine and blood.

The research results were published in the journal Cell.
