Life without lactose

Indigestion, also called dyspepsiais becoming more common among people all over the world. In Germany alone, lactose intolerance (commonly known as a milk allergy) affects nearly 14 million diagnosed people, but the real number is certainly higher.  Lactose is the sugar found in milk, but it is also an ingredient in many other manufactured foods. Few people know the cause of their ailments. However, people who feel after eating abdominal pain or have diarrheashould be tested in this regard.  The body of people intolerant to lactose does not produce or produces too little lactazy, an enzyme that breaks down lactoseę. Without it, undegraded lactose enters the large intestine, where it begins to ferment under the influence of intestinal bacteria. It is this fermentation process that causes severe digestive problems.  Milk sugar intolerance is diagnosed with hydrogen breath test. In this test, patients drink an aqueous solution of lactose (50 g of lactose dissolved in water or tea) and, at 20 to 30 minutes intervals for 3 hours, blow their exhaled air into a special device. In this way, the patient’s breath is tested for the content of hydrogen, the increased level of which indicates improper digestion of lactose.

If you are lactose intolerant you will need to changing eating habits. However, grocery shopping will not be a big deal for people with milk allergies as the food industry has reacted early enough to the rise of lactose intolerant people and thus there are many foods without lactose content.  Changing the diet is recommended to alleviate discomfort. In order to avoid calcium deficiency in the body, which is an important component of milk, it is necessary to think about the appropriate ones dietary supplements. You can also take lactase tablets, which help with a spontaneous visit to a restaurant. source: ScienceNews.pl
