Liatris: planting and grooming outdoors
Attractive liatris will be a decoration of your site. This flower looks attractive in compositions with any plants. Planting and caring for liatrix in the open field does not take much time and effort. After all, culture is unpretentious, and anyone can grow it.
Liatris flower: description and photo
A perennial herb belongs to the Aster family. In its natural environment, it can be found in Mexico, North America and the Bahamas. Due to its attractive appearance, the flower is widely used in landscape design. The spike-shaped buds of the culture exude a pleasant aroma, which is why they are used in perfumery.
There are several types of this flower. But spikelet liatris is especially popular with domestic gardeners. This variety blooms from late June to mid-July. The stem with linear leaves reaches 50 cm. The inflorescences are large, spike-shaped. Their height is 35 cm. The petals are painted in blue and blue shades, but there are varieties with pink and white inflorescences.
Planting and caring for lyatrix outdoors
The plant is not afraid of frost, so it can be sown in spring and autumn. A place for a shrub is suitable both in the shade and in the sun. Moreover, the flower does not make any special claims to the soil. The main thing is that the land is dry, with a deep bed of groundwater. Landing rules:
- Dig up the soil and add 1 sq. m in a bucket of humus.
- Dig grooves 1-1,5 cm deep.
- Spread the seeds evenly and cover them with soil.
- Moisten the beds well.
Seedlings will appear in the spring, but for the first time the shrub will bloom only next year. Taking care of the plant is easy. Basic rules for growing:
- Only moisturize the shrub during the driest periods. The rest of the plant has enough rainfall.
- It is advisable to mulch the soil with a layer of peat or cut grass.
- Over time, the roots of the culture become bare, so periodically add soil.
- In the spring, feed the flower with nitrogen preparations, and in the summer with potassium-phosphorus preparations. In the fall, cover the rhizomes with a 10 cm layer of compost.
- Trim faded stalks.
- Before winter, cut off all the stems of the crop and cover the plant with spruce branches or fallen leaves.
Anyone can grow a decorative liatris on their site. This attractive plant has a non-capricious character, so planting and caring for the crop will not cause much trouble.
