Lei 925 is a premium tequila that is as pure as 925 sterling silver. The brand is also known for being repeatedly listed in the Guinness Book as the most expensive tequila in the world, and the management of the manufacturing company Tequilera Hacienda la Capilla constantly beats its own records.
Historical reference. Tequilera Hacienda la Capilla was founded in 1993. The Casillas family, to whom it belongs, has been making tequila for over a hundred years. This firm is one of the few large companies with entirely Mexican capital. She owns blue agave plantations located in the state of Jalisco and a distillery in the town of Capilla de Guadalupe.
Tequilera Hacienda la Capilla products have repeatedly won prizes at international competitions. However, more than a thousand brands of tequila are produced in Mexico, each of them is good in its own way, and in order for the relatively young company to be known all over the world, a truly non-standard marketing ploy was needed.
What did Tequilera Hacienda la Capilla have to offer? – Premium tequila, made according to a special recipe from 100% blue agave juice. Tequilero companies did their best and created a drink with a soft, refined taste. The new tequila was perfect, like sterling silver. In addition, it is with this silver that the label of a drink bottle is decorated. Therefore, they named it accordingly – Ley .925 (“925th test”).
The real recognition for Ley .925 tequila came on July 20, 2006, when the first bottle from the Pasión Azteca (“Azteca Passion”) series was sold for 225 thousand dollars. Of course, ultra premium multi-year tequila doesn’t come cheap. However, such an impressive price is due to the fact that all bottles of the Pasión Azteca series are handmade from ceramics, decorated with precious metals. The bottles were designed by renowned industrial designer Fernando Altamirano. Each vessel is engraved with the Passion of the Aztec emblem, created by the artist Alejandro Gomez Oropeza.
In total, the Pasión Azteca series has produced:
- 999 bottles of four-year-old tequila decorated with gold and silver. Bottle price – $ 25;
- 33 bottles decorated with gold and platinum. One of them is engraved with the emblem of Mexico City, the rest – the emblems of 32 Mexican states. Bottle price – $ 150000;
- 33 bottles decorated with white gold and platinum. Each of them bears the emblem of Mexico City. It took 2 kilograms of precious metals to make one vessel. The price of a bottle is $225000.
Of course, after such an unprecedented action, Lei .925 tequila was listed in the Guinness Book of Records. But the result was so impressive that the head of the company, Eduardo Barba Casillas, decided not to stop there.
In 2007, in one of the casinos in Las Vegas, Tequilera Hacienda la Capilla organized the presentation of a bottle of La Ley del Diamante tequila (in the American version – Ley .925 Sterling Diamond), which cost $ 1350000 (million euros). The vessel was decorated with platinum and silver, encrusted with diamonds.
In 2010, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the start of the Mexican War of Independence, the company released a new $3,5 million bottle of La Ley del Diamante. Jewelers of the famous Mexican firm Jose Davalos encrusted the vessel with 328 diamonds with a total weight of 1,3 carats. 2,3 kilograms of platinum were used to finish the 18 liter bottle. On the leather case in which the bottle is enclosed, the emblem of the company, made of XNUMX carat gold, flaunts.
