Anxiety attacks, tension and nervousness are an increasingly common disease of modern society. These problems are most often treated with psychotropic drugs. One of such drugs is Lexotan from the group of benzodiazepine derivatives. What is Lexotan characterized by? How does Lexotane work and what side effects can it bring?
Characteristics of the drug Lexotan
Lexotan is a prescription drug available at a pharmacy. One tablet of the drug contains 3 mg of bromazepam. The other excipients included in Lexotan are microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, talc, lactose monohydrate, red iron oxide. Lexotan is sold in the form of tablets, in a package of 30 pieces, only by prescription. The dosage of the drug should be in accordance with the doctor’s recommendation or in accordance with the leaflet attached to the drug. For outpatients, a mean dose of 1,5 mg to 3 mg up to three times a day is recommended. In severe cases where hospital treatment is required, the dose is between 6 mg and 12 mg two or three times a day. The dose of Lexotane is selected individually for a given patient and the drug should be used under the constant supervision of a physician. In the case of outpatient treatment, Lexotan should be administered in low doses in the initial phase and gradually increased to the optimal level. Treatment with Lexotan should be as short as possible and the patient should see a doctor regularly in order to assess the need for continued use of Lexotan. The duration of treatment with Lexotan should not exceed 8 to 12 weeks, including the period of gradual withdrawal of the drug.
Action of the drug Lexotan
The active substance of Lexotan is bromazepam, which is a chemical compound that enhances the action of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid, has a sedative, hypnotic, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant and muscle relaxing effect. The drug Lexotan is mainly characterized by an antidepressant effect, acting in the area of our brain, which is the limbic system. Lexotan relaxes the body and slows down its functions, reducing mental tension, stress and anxiety. Lexotan is mainly used to treat anxiety attacks, obsessive disorders, phobias, hypochondria and panic attacks. In addition, Lexotan eliminates aggressive behavior or self-harm. The drug is also used in the case of intense mental agitation and as a drug with a relaxing effect before minor surgical procedures. In some cases, Lexotan is used in post-traumatic stress disorders, adaptation disorders and anxiety states in the course of chronic organic diseases of the central nervous system.
Side effects that may occur after taking Lexotan
Side effects that may occur in connection with an overdose of Lexotan are somnolence, impaired motor coordination, speech impairment and nystagmus. An overdose of this drug should not be life threatening if it is the only drug of this type being taken by the patient. On the other hand, an overdose may result in the disappearance of reflexes, apnea, drop in blood pressure, and even coma. Lexotan is a drug that can develop physical dependence and may develop withdrawal symptoms upon discontinuation of its use. The side effects of drug withdrawal include headache, diarrhea, muscle pain, increased anxiety, restlessness, confusion and irritability. In addition, Lexotan, like any drug, can bring about side effects that do not have to occur in every patient who takes this drug. The most common side effects when using Lexotan are: hypersensitivity, anaphylactic shock, angioedema, confusion, emotional disorders, mood disorder, nightmares and problems with motor coordination. Lexotan is a drug that interacts with many other drugs that act on the central nervous system, such as antidepressants, opioid analgesics, psychotropic drugs and sedative antihistamines. When using Lexotan, it is important to follow your doctor’s instructions and report any disturbing symptoms as soon as possible.
