Letter to editor: There were implications that I was simulating or asking if I was cheating on my husband. Doctors’ fantasy knows no bounds

Anna’s health problems began when she was a child. “I’ve been counting on medical help for the last 30 years,” he writes in a letter to the editorial office of MedTvoiLokony. Unfortunately, she still faced problems – with referrals, well-chosen drugs, interpretation of results, and doctors’ attitude. “There were implications that I was either simulating or asking if I was cheating on my husband.” The disappointed woman began to seek help in natural medicine.

Chronically ill patients and carers of the ill face the struggle for health every day. It is not possible without the participation and support of the health service. That is why the Urszula Jaworska Foundation and Medonet are launching the #NiewidzialnyPacjent campaign, whose task is to examine access to medical care in Poland. As part of the campaign, we also publish patient stories and lists of readers.

Our #NiewidzialnyPacjent campaign has already started. MedTvoiLokony’s editorial staff receives letters from patients. Today we publish a message sent to us by Mrs. Anna.

«Dear Editor,

Recently, I found an article “At the doctor’s, a man has to fight as if he were in a war” and I can confirm that my story was similar.

But a man can fight as long as he has strength. Then even those are missing. And the constant state of tension, uncertainty and hopelessness only aggravates the organism’s dysfunction.

My story began at the age of six, when I was first diagnosed with anemia. Doctors had no better idea than to prescribe iron. Overall, little has come out of the research. I only received one referral for parasite tests. Luck wants that their development cycle is different and with only one test it is like playing roulette. I finally started to have an allergic reaction to iron in increasing amounts.

Then, seven years ago, I had to get vaccinated against hepatitis A and B before surgery. I reacted severely to the second dose. After commissioning some basic research, I was left on my own again. I have no complaints about the vaccination, no one could have predicted that my body would react like that. After so many years, somewhere there was still a regret that I was left with the same. Unfortunately, that’s not all.

During my life so far for seven years I bounced from one gynecologist to another with severe inflammation. My period was ending, vaginal discharge was starting, water was pouring down in an amount similar to monthly bleeding, every day! Seven years in pads all the time – and I got allergic to the synthetic ones quite quickly and had to start using reusable ones. The cytology results came out in the third group, there was no diagnosis. Besides, everything was relatively fine. There are even insinuations that I am simulating, or questions like whether I am cheating on my husband, etc. The physicians’ fantasy knows no bounds, really. With such daily pain and discharge, I had to give up my beloved sport, which was ballroom dancing. I was given more medications. Back then, my life looked like a nightmare. I was faced with an ER with a major haemorrhage twice. When I finally got to the test, the hemorrhage was stopping by itself and there was nothing to test. The third time the cause was not fully born, and remained on the stem – a fibroid the size of a ping-pong ball. Since then, I have come back to life. A bit.

Until June this year, when I got a strong inflammation of the urethra. It continues today. The urologist sends me to the gynecologist and is furious, why I want a referral from him for urethral culture (quote: “What am I so afraid of these mushrooms?”). And the gynecologist sends me to a urologist, because the urinary tract is not his scope. A comedy if it didn’t hurt.

A side effect of previous antibiotic treatment is a rash on the skin of the arms, forearms, hands and legs. My bet is that this type of treatment didn’t make it easier for the liver and kidneys to function. For about a month I started to improve when I switched to grandma’s treatment and I think that is what I will focus on. I have been counting on medical help for the last 30 years.

During my journey so far, I noticed that it is not so much the problem with ordering tests (they will eventually be fought out), but with the interpretation of the results. A weakened organism will react differently to the bacillus than a healthy and strong one. For example, until now my spleen size was normal on ultrasound examinations. Currently, I am getting a slight magnification. The hematologist says this is normal for my height, although the technician’s result has been flagged as outside the norm. Take, for example, such a hematologist. I am preparing for the visit. I say that I have a problem with my liver and maybe my kidneys, and a slight enlargement of the spleen may indicate some kind of inflammation of the spleen. Perhaps it would be worth investigating somehow. I say I have liver spots all over my right side from the time I was given a horse’s iron dose at the age of six. The tendency to skin rashes resembling eczema or atopic dermatitis has also started since then. I show an eczema that looked like crust that day. Reaction: “Er, it’s freckles, and that’s just dry skin. What are you telling me and showing me here? ”.

This is sad.

For some time now I have started to follow the principle: do not waste energy on what you have no control over and you will be healthier.

So I will deal with what I have influence on – finding a therapy for myself among the old methods. Medicus curat, natura sanat (Latin doctor heals, nature heals – ed.) ».
