What determines the successful outcome of any conflict — be it a quarrel between neighbors, disagreements between states or a military-political crisis? An experiment by psychologist David Winter from the University of Michigan (USA) confirmed what we suspected: the chances of a positive outcome are higher when participants are ready to understand complex relationships and are focused on a constructive result, and the desire to prove their superiority, the tendency to cut knots one blow does not lead to good. Unexpectedly, it turned out that a heightened sense of responsibility also exacerbates the situation. This is apparently explained by the fact that it is impossible to resolve the conflict by unilateral efforts: interaction and a flexible balance of mutual responsibility are necessary.
