The rate of SARS-CoV-2 infections in Małopolska is lower, and the situation in hospitals is stabilizing. We will reduce the number of covid beds, informed the voivode Łukasz Kmita on Monday in social media.
Last week’s data allows for the correction of the number of beds for COVID-19 patients – the voivode said.
“All this so that patients with ailments other than the coronavirus can have the best possible care” – said Łukasz Kmita.
According to the data of the provincial office, week to week, the number of SARS-CoV-2 infections decreased by 20%. From 24 to 30 January, the average daily number of infected people in Małopolska was 3840. From January 31 to February 6, this number was reduced by 750.
“The situation is also stable in hospitals in Małopolska, where 1973 COVID-19 patients are currently staying, including 159 on ventilator beds,” said the voivode. According to Monday’s data from the office, 1043 covid beds and 111 respirators are vacant.
As announced, more hospitals – after the University Hospital, the Hospital of Dietl in Kraków and the hospital in Nowy Sącz – are to receive a decision to temporarily reduce the number of covid beds.

«Thanks to this, the directors will be able to» isolate «subsequent units – including the most necessary ones, ie the boarding house” – emphasized Kmita.
At the end of the week, the directors of Krakow city hospitals assessed that the situation in non-covid wards was difficult. Patients of departments transformed into covid are in a special situation. Often there is no place for them.
«Only patients who are in worse condition are admitted. The rest, if they can wait – they wait, if they can be discharged home – they are discharged, because there is a limited number of beds needed all the time »- Jerzy Friediger, director of the Żeromski hospital told PAP.
The deputy director of the Narutowicz hospital, Agnieszka Marzęcka-Wójcik, assessed the situation as follows: «The occupancy rate is very high. There is often a shortage of places and patients are hospitalized for the so-called extra beds ».
