Cherry “Leningradskaya black” has proven itself well among gardeners. A short tree makes it easy to harvest. The high yields, the transportability of the fruits and their excellent taste attract large-scale cherry entrepreneurs.
Description of the variety of cherries “Leningradskaya”
The variety of this cherry is distinguished by unharmonious ripening of fruits. The first berries ripen in mid-July, the last in mid-September. At the same time, their taste and appearance does not deteriorate. Thus, the garden will have fresh berries for two months.
Cherry “Leningradskaya” bears fruit from July to September
The variety has its own advantages:
- The tree is undersized, which greatly simplifies garden maintenance and harvesting.
- There is a high yield – one tree can give up to 40 kg of fruit.
- It tolerates winter well, therefore it can be grown in the northern regions.
- The tree is resistant to diseases, due to which you can do without chemicals in the garden.
- The fruit is black, very sweet, firm, the stone is not completely separated. It is applied universally, in any form.
Cherry contains a lot of vitamins necessary for the body. This variety is useful to grow in the garden for children. Processed berries lose their properties. Therefore, they are consumed only fresh, since there is enough time for this.
Cherry variety “Leningradskaya” – care rules
There are several simple tricks that must be followed to grow cherries:
- In the early years, prune branches to form the crown. Otherwise, the tree will grow strongly. The harvest will be very plentiful, but not every year, as excessive fertility depletes the plant.
- In spring, take measures to protect flowering trees from late frosts.
- In autumn, wrap the trunks with special material to protect them from pests. In winter, the bark attracts rodents. They are especially dangerous for seedlings of the first years of life.
- In the spring, whitewash the trunks with lime and copper sulfate. This will protect the plant from sunburn and pathogenic bacteria.
The implementation of these measures will enable the tree to live for a long time. The long ripening of the crop attracts entrepreneurs by the fact that it is possible to sell cherries in September, when other varieties have already finished bearing fruit.
This cherry variety cannot self-pollinate, it needs a pollinator – a cherry or another variety of sweet cherries. For a good harvest, it is better to plant them in the neighborhood. But you need to select plants that bloom at the same time as this variety.
