What is wild rosemary

This plant belongs to the Heather family. It has six species and several other names: bagun, bedbug, hemlock, and forest rosemary. It grows more often in swamps, in small bushes up to 1 meter, with small, white flowers. Rosemary leaves are similar to rosemary leaves: take a look at this photo.

Ledum: benefits and harms

It is a medicinal plant, but its rich smell is poisonous and causes headaches. In the old days it was called swamp stupidity. Therefore, when drying wild rosemary, it is better to stay away from it.

As a rule, it is dried on special flooring, in ventilated places, so that it does not overheat. All parts of the plant (except for the roots) have essential oils, therefore, after thorough drying (14 days), it is folded and stored in paper bags.

The plant has medicinal properties:

  • anti-inflammatory;
  • bactericidal;
  • antipyretic;
  • expectorant.

The wild rosemary herb has been used in medicine for 200 years, especially in Sweden and Germany, in Russia since the end of the XNUMXth century.

In medical practice, the plant is used as an antitussive and expectorant agent for acute and chronic bronchitis with a bronchospastic component, bronchial asthma and whooping cough (“Ledin”).

The drug “Ledin” improves coughing, eliminates insomnia, headache. Also used as a diuretic, disinfectant and antiseptic. In homeopathy, rosemary tincture, together with other components, is used in the treatment of rheumatism.

How to cook rosemary infusion

The infusion is prepared from 6 g of chopped herbs per 200 ml of water. Take 1 tbsp. spoon 3-4 times a day.

Sometimes bagun is used in a mixture with the leaves of coltsfoot. Plants are taken equally and an infusion is prepared from 1 tbsp. tablespoons of the mixture in 200 ml of water. Take 1 tbsp. a spoonful of infusion every 2 hours.

In case of an overdose of wild rosemary preparations appear:

  • irritability;
  • dizziness;
  • excitement, alternating with depression of the central nervous system.

Ledum in folk medicine

  • bronchitis – acute and chronic;
  • with burns of the mucous throat, with a dry cough;
  • inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract, if accompanied by a cough;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • whooping cough, tuberculosis, other infectious diseases;
  • pneumonia.

The leaflets are used for flu and colds. The herbal decoction is used to relieve coughs and as a vasodilator. As a preventive measure in the cold, winter period, herbal tea with the addition of wild rosemary will help.

Infusion can be used to treat abrasions and cuts. In everyday life, the twigs of the plant will help get rid of moths, bedbugs and mice.

Bagun is poisonous. It should be consumed carefully, strictly following the doctor’s recommendations. He has many contraindications:

  • in the treatment of cough in children under 14 years of age, it is prescribed with great care;
  • it is forbidden to drink infusion and tea during pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • with epilepsy;
  • with low blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases associated with low blood pressure;
  • hepatitis, pancreatitis and other lesions of the liver, kidneys.
