And as we all know, this is far from new. In fact, some studies estimate that we have been from 8.000 BC. C. consuming this food.
However, what we could point to as novel is the current trend of preparing bread in our homes, and, although there are many types of bread, in this article we are going to focus on whole wheat, for those who want to enjoy healthier meals, or not get fat.
Of course, although whole wheat bread is healthier, since it contains more fiber, the recommended portion is two slices of sliced bread. And, of course, it is also important that bread accompany healthy dishes if you do not want to gain weight. Now, we teach you how to prepare homemade whole wheat bread!
Ingredients for making homemade bread
Only the following ingredients will be necessary:
- 300 gr de harina INTEGRAL
- 200 gr of water
- 2 g of dry baker’s yeast or 6 g of fresh yeast
- 6 gr sal
You can buy these ingredients in any supermarket. And, of course, if you use more flour you will have to do the same with the water.
Steps to prepare homemade whole wheat bread
- The first step is to sift 150 gr of whole wheat flour.
- Take a large bowl, and pour the sifted flour and yeast into it (dry or fresh depending on which you have chosen). Mix it, then add the 200 g of water and mix it again until there are no floury areas.
- Once the ingredients are integrated, we must add the salt and mix it again.
- It is time to knead, for which you will have to put the bread on the counter and use your hands.
We emphasize this point: How should you knead? To do this, you must roll and stretch the dough with your hands. You roll, stretch, roll, stretch, and so on. You do this for several minutes, and you let the bread sit for another 2 or 3 minutes. While the bread rests, it is very important that they do not give it drafts, for which you must cover it.
Once rested, you repeat the process of rolling, stretching, rolling, stretching, etc. and again you let it rest another 2 or 3 minutes.
You must repeat this process to get an elastic dough.
Important tip: when you roll and stretch, try to do it in all directions (and always with the base of your hand), so that you do not repeatedly roll and stretch the same area of the dough.
- Once the dough is more taut, we round it.
- We take a bowl and add a pinch of oil to it. Then, smear the surface of the bowl well with this oil.
- Place your bread dough in the bowl. To do this, the part of the fold must go down.
- Cover the bowl with a cloth and let it rest until the volume of the dough has doubled, which will take about an hour and a half.
- Flour the countertop and dump the dough on it.
- Fold the dough to shape the bread. You can choose between an elongated loaf, more round, according to your preferences. If you notice that the dough sticks, you can add more flour.
Important tip: lightly flatten the dough by turning the ends so that the tips of the bread are formed.
- Place the dough on the baking sheet and again let the bread rest for about 20 minutes (covering it with a kitchen towel).
- Preheat oven to 220ºC.
- After 20 minutes, use a knife to make a shallow cut along the bread, so that the inside of it is also made.
- Put the bread in the oven and cook it for about 10 minutes at 220ºC with heat up and down.
- Lower the temperature to 200ºC and let it cook for another 15 minutes.
- Let it cool, and enjoy this delicious bread.
Once you have prepared your first homemade whole wheat bread, you can slightly modify the amount to use of each ingredient, depending on whether you prefer a thinner, thicker bread, etc.
And in the same way, instead of whole wheat flour you can opt for wheat or spelled flour. In any case, we hope that the end result has been as desired.
