The pursuit of excellence helps many of us change for the better and achieve better results in life. However, the extreme manifestation of this trait – perfectionism – has the opposite effect: it is a shortcut to hating your job and facing burnout.
The pursuit of excellence helps many of us change for the better and achieve better results in life. However, the extreme manifestation of this trait – perfectionism – has the opposite effect: it is a shortcut to hating your job and facing burnout. The more a perfectionist gets frustrated with failure and feels guilty, the less likely they are to succeed professionally. And vice versa: those who can recognize their imperfection and learn constructive lessons from it manage to work effectively and get satisfaction from work. These are the results of studies conducted by psychologists at the English University of Kent and the German Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg.
