leap year is called a calendar year that contains one extra day (366 instead of the usual 365).
According to the Gregorian calendar, which is adopted in most countries of the world, February 29 is an additional day. Accordingly, the same month in ordinary (non-leap) years ends on the 28th.
A leap year occurs every 4 years. This means that those born on February 29 officially celebrate their birthday, also once every four years, although many, of course, transfer the holiday to March 1.
Leap year check
According to the Gregorian calendar, a leap year is:
- whose number is a multiple of 400;
- whose number is a multiple of 4, but at the same time, is not a multiple of 100.
For example, let’s check the year 2024:
- 2024 / 400 = 5,06
- 2024 / 4 = 506, 2024 / 100 = 20,24
The second point will be fulfilled completely, which means that 2024 is a leap year.
