Unlike summer curtains, winter curtains should not only decorate the interior, but also warm the room. How to do it with style and skill?
Curtains, curtains, curtains can both transform a room and, alas, spoil the whole experience. To prevent this from happening, we will use the decorators’ advice.
What is fashionable this winter? First of all, jacquard weaves with a clear, three-dimensional pattern. The novelty of the season is a quilted canvas on a padding polyester of various colors and patterns. Velvet, plush and velor are a thing of the past. They were replaced by a soft and fleecy fabric – chenille… The most fashionable color combination this winter is dark chocolate with vanilla.
Now for the details.
Lined curtains
According to decorators, the ideal “winter” clothes for windows are lined curtains. This is a combination of two panels: sheer organza and heavy fabric curtains. The lining protects the delicate fabric, adds volume and serves as a kind of finish. Cloths can be plain or contrasting.

Curtains with padding
They are cut out of three parts, the gasket allows you to beautifully drape the curtains, as well as protect the room from drafts.
Multi-layer curtains
They look beautiful and unusual. They are several separate panels fixed on one cornice. Layers can be swapped and new ones added according to your mood and desire.
Hinged tricks
Curtains made of fabrics with transverse stripes will visually expand a narrow room, and with vertical ones – they will help to visually “raise” the ceilings.
For visual insulation, you need warm shades of pastel colors: beige, yellow, brown, mustard or terracotta colors.
If the windows face south, bright linen, but thick curtains are perfect – the morning sun will “warm” them from the outside, and they will only bring a cozy warming sensation.
If the windows face north and direct sunlight never gets into the room, then rich beige shades will cope with the lack of lighting.
Pearl-effect tulle
Tulle curtains are equally good all year round. The only thing is that in cold weather, sunlight is in short supply, so it is important to have time to catch it, let it into the room as much as possible and fill all corners with it. For this, a special tulle fabric with a mother-of-pearl effect is best suited. The wonderful property of such a material is the refraction of sunlight. They multiply in folds, reflect, glide and fill the room with natural light.
Short curtains
In winter, our rooms are warmed by batteries. If you close them on top with long curtains, especially heavy ones, you can lose a significant amount of heat. Therefore, during the heating season, it is better to hang either short curtains (with a length just below the windowsill), or ordinary ones with special fasteners. For example, you can pick up long curtains up to the middle and attach them to buttons sewn to the canvas. You can also open the batteries with roman and roller blinds.
When choosing curtains, you must consider:
which side of the world are your windows facing,
the height of the ceilings,
window sizes,
style and color palette of the interior,
functional purpose of curtains.
Do not forget about pelmets!
Usually in winter it “blows” not only from below, but also from above. And the curtains freely “sag” on the cornice, gathering in folds and letting in cold air. In this case, for additional insulation, we recommend using lambrequin… It can be either draped or on a rigid basis. However, this detail looks harmonious only in a room with high ceilings – with low ceilings, some structures may look too bulky.
In general, today eclecticism is in favor – a mixture of seemingly incompatible details, shapes and colors. Therefore, when choosing curtains, remember: the main thing is that you like them and warm you at first sight.
