Laxol – indications, dosage, contraindications, side effects

Laxol is a drug used in habitual constipation. The preparation has a laxative effect and loosens the fecal masses, it is in the form of suppositories and is available without a prescription. The active substrate of Laxol is docusate sodium, which allows water to pass into the stool and at the same time facilitates defecation. The preparation has no effect on the intestinal peristalsis, it can only inhibit the absorption of glucose.

Laxol are suppositories taken in:

  1. treat constipation.

Dosage

Laxol is in the form of suppositories and should be administered rectally. Do not exceed the recommended daily doses, because instead of helping, it may harm your life or health.

  1. Adults and children over 12 years of age. Rectally, 1 suppository 2 × / day.

Laxol and contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Laxol are:

  1. inflammatory diseases of the large intestine,
  2. hemorrhoids,
  3. anal fissure,
  4. bowel obstruction,
  5. unknown cause stomach pain
  6. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation.
  7. not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Laxol – warnings

  1. Do not use the drug for more than 7 to 10 days without consulting a doctor.
  2. It should be remembered that too long treatment with Laxol may lead to a decrease in blood potassium levels (hypokalaemia) or colon atony (increased constipation).
  3. There is no information on the effect of the drug on the ability to drive.

Laxol with other drugs

  1. When Laxol is used concomitantly with liquid paraffin, the absorption of mineral oils may be increased, which in turn may lead to inflammation and infiltration of liver cells.

Laxol – side effects

During the treatment with Laxol, the following may occur:

  1. diarrhea,
  2. hypokalemia,
  3. rectal pain and bleeding,
  4. allergic reactions
  5. swelling of the intestinal mucosa.
