Laxigen is a laxative medicine that is used in acute constipation in children and adults. What is the mechanism of action of Laxigen and in what cases is its use recommended? How to dose Laxigen correctly?

Laxigen for acute constipation

Constipation is a very common condition in which the intestinal contents remain in the gastrointestinal tract for a long time. It is assumed that a healthy person should pass a stool at least once a day. If this frequency is lower, or if you notice a problem with your bowel movements, you are probably constipated. If the digested food stays in the intestines for too long, it becomes overly thickened. The stool then becomes smaller, and at the same time harder and more compact. There are many possible causes of constipation, including: neurological disorders, lengthening or enlargement of the large intestine, diabetes, hypothyroidism, endometriosis, hemorrhoids, hernia, functional disorders or situational reasons such as long journeys and the resulting inability to have regular bowel movements myself. Constipation can be prevented by taking laxatives. One of the stronger laxatives is Laxigen.

Laxigen – composition and mechanism of action

Laxigen is a powerful laxative, the active ingredient of which is oxyphenizatin. It is worth noting that this substance has been withdrawn from the market in many countries due to its strong laxative and addictive properties. Oxyphenizatin is a synthetic laxative drug. The mechanism of action of this active substance is based on the increase in peristalsis of the large intestine. Currently, it is administered rectally, and less and less often it is used orally. The effect of Laxigen occurs 8 hours after taking the preparation. Therefore, it is recommended that the dose be taken just before going to bed.

Laxigen – indications and contraindications

The indication for the use of Laxigen is very strong and long-lasting constipation. The composition of the drug Laxigen is based on chemical substances that have a very strong effect, therefore it should not be used in cases of mild constipation. A contraindication to the use of Laxigen is hypersensitivity to oxyphenizatin and to any of the excipients of the preparation. Additionally, Laxigen cannot be used in patients who have been diagnosed with jaundice, irritation of the blind intestine, intestinal obstruction, chronic constipation, liver damage. Laxigen must not be used regularly, because using the drug for too long can damage the liver, irritate the intestines and cause the so-called lazy intestine.

Laxigen – correct dosage

Laxigen should be used according to the doctor’s instructions. Adults should take the drug once at bedtime in a dose of one to three tablets. Children, on the other hand, are given one or two tablets. Remember that Laxigen is used on an ad hoc basis and should not be used on a regular basis. Regular use of Laxigen is addictive.
