When is the last call in 2023 celebrated?

Traditionally, the date of the last calls in Our Country is 25 May. However, each school has the right to establish its own rules and arrange the final school line on any day convenient for itself.

The history of the holiday: who came up with the idea of celebrating the Last Bell

The last bell became a nationwide celebration not so long ago – around the 70s. From that time on, the day of farewell to the school began to be celebrated en masse and throughout the Union. But for the first time this holiday was held much earlier, back in the 40s. And its initiator was the honored Soviet teacher Fyodor Bryukhovetsky, a follower of Makarenko. Fedor Fedorovich generally paid a lot of attention to education during his studies. He is the ancestor of many school customs that are designed to rally children in a team – by the way, we also owe Knowledge Day to this outstanding teacher. The choice of a date for the holiday of farewell to the school is quite logical – the academic year is ending, and for some, the graduation year, so just around May 25th, eleventh graders hear their last call in the school corridors. Classes are over, now only exams and preparation for them are ahead.

Holiday traditions: Soviet uniforms and white bows

It is precisely because of exams that lately there have been more and more proposals to abandon noisy notes and limit ourselves to just a solemn ruler. Like, the guys need to take the exam, is it up to the festivities here? However, not everyone supports such an initiative, and in most schools the Last Bell is still a bright and cheerful holiday. It has several main traditions.

Firstly, the official part is the same line with congratulatory speeches from teachers and the director and a symbolic last call. It is given in a special bell by a first-grader, who is carried on the shoulders of a fellow graduate.

Then there are clothes. With the introduction of uniforms in many schools, this tradition has faded into the background. But just a few years ago, every graduate considered it her duty to put on a Soviet-style suit for the line – a brown dress and a white apron. And of course, bows – they flaunted in the hairstyles of almost all girls. Today, this form has been replaced by outfits of a more modern style – classic dresses and skirts for girls and formal suits for boys.

Sometimes, on the line, schoolchildren exchange small bells as a gift and release balloons into the sky. And then comes the unofficial part of the holiday. Its content depends on each particular school: somewhere teenagers are taken to ride on a boat, someone goes on a trip to nature with the whole class, and sometimes to a banquet in a restaurant.

In some schools, the last bell is celebrated in a very unusual way. For example, quests on school topics with tasks for ingenuity or recently completed in the classroom are gaining popularity.

In one of the Moscow schools on the eve of the last bell, graduates “fall into childhood”: they come to lessons in multi-colored golfs, put teddy bears at their desks with them. It is believed that in this way already quite adult children part with a carefree life.

And someone, on the contrary, thinks about something serious on the day of farewell to school. More and more classes decide to donate the money set aside for the banquet and outfits to charity. Instead of cafes, teenagers go to oncology centers or children’s hospitals in order to give up the holiday for themselves and give it to someone who needs it so much.

Driving tractors and throwing away notebooks: how farewell to school is celebrated in different countries of the world

Not only in Our Country, the last bell and graduation are considered holidays. Many countries even outdid us in this area.

For example, in Norway farewell to the school stretches for several days and includes pedestrian processions with songs and dances through the streets of cities. At the same time, young people dress up in bright costumes, most often red ones.

В Sweden graduates ride in open trucks with school logos on the back, and sometimes even tractors act as transport.

В Italy not only teenagers actively participate in the celebration, but also their parents, who come off no less.

fun in China – it is customary to throw objects associated with study out of the windows – pens, notebooks.

В USA walk to the graduation, and this is a whole social event with guys in tuxedos and girls in evening dresses.

But in Britain everything is serious – they only celebrate the end of the university there, and they are not particularly distracted on school holidays.
