Laryngitis – Our doctor’s opinion
As part of its quality approach, Passeportsanté.net invites you to discover the opinion of a health professional. Dr Catherine Solano, gives you her opinion on the laryngitis :
When a very young child (under 3 years old and even less than a year old) has breathing difficulties, do not hesitate to call an emergency service (SAMU) where a doctor will ask questions to see if it really is an emergency. Don’t hesitate, it can save a life. Vaccinations against diphtheria, rubella, mumps, measles, hemophilus influenzae and the flu decrease the risk of acute laryngitis. In adults, a voice disorder or breathing difficulties that last more than 2 weeks should encourage consultation, and even more in a person who smokes or / and consumes alcohol. ENT doctors are always afraid of discovering precancerous lesions, and this is why it is necessary to consult quickly in order to be treated before a stage of laryngeal cancer. Acid reflux from the stomach to the larynx (gastroesophageal reflux disease) is a very common cause of chronic laryngitis in adults. Signs may be a change in voice, frequent coughing or scraping. It is important that the problem be diagnosed by a doctor in order to establish an appropriate treatment. Dr Catherine Solano |
