The Lapponia brand produces several types of alcohol, but the most famous and popular is Lakka. Lapponia Lakka is a Finnish cloudberry liqueur with a strength of 21% vol. The company is located in the city of Turku and has been producing liqueurs since 1867, and the license for commercial activity was issued by Emperor Alexander II himself (until 1917, Finland was part of the Russian Empire).
Cloudberry is a yellow-orange northern berry, similar to a blackberry, only sweeter. It grows in swamps, is especially common in Scandinavia, is considered a symbol of Finland. Cloudberries contain several times more vitamin C than citrus fruits.
It is impossible to grow cloudberries in greenhouses or set up “plantations” for them – this is a wild berry.
Characteristics of Lapponia Lakka
Despite the solid strength, cloudberry “Lapponia” is easy to drink, the degree is almost not felt. This is a full-bodied spirit with notes of honey and cloves, a balanced sweet-sour taste.
The manufacturer claims that the berries for the liquor are harvested by hand and then subjected to slow distillation to preserve all the flavor and aroma. According to other sources, cloudberries are macerated (infused) in alcohol for two to six months – but the exact recipe for the drink, of course, remains a trade secret. It is only known that spices are added to the liquor at the final stage of production, and the drink itself is aged in oak barrels or stainless steel containers before bottling.
Cloudberry liqueurs from other manufacturers
Kukki by Hermannin. If Lapponia Lakka has a rich fruity taste with the addition of honey and spices, then Kukki is more cloudy, without foreign aromas, with a distinct sourness.
Chymos Lakka is the sweetest cloudberry liqueur, has a velvety “creamy” texture and is often used in cocktails.
Lignell & Piispanen specializes in craft liqueurs, the company produces traditional cloudberry alcohol (liquor and wine) according to recipes developed before Prohibition, repeatedly introduced in Finland from 1775 to 1932.
Other types of Lapponia liqueurs
Lapponia Polar Karpolo – cranberry.
Lapponia Blueberry – черничный.
Lapponia Lingonberry – брусничный.

All liqueurs in this series have a strength of 21% vol. and are produced in characteristic “pot-bellied” bottles.
