Lametta is a drug for postmenopausal women. Can not be used before the menopause and during pregnancy. It can be dangerous because it inhibits the growth of cancer cells.
Lametta – action
Lametta is an anti-cancer medicine. Its task is to inhibit aromatase, which then inhibits estrogen biosynthesis in peripheral tissues and in the neoplastic tissue itself.
Lametta – application
The drug is recommended:
- postmenopausal women with early-stage hormone-receptor positive invasive breast cancer as an adjuvant therapy,
- postmenopausal patients with hormone-dependent invasive early breast cancer as an extension of adjuvant temoxifen (after 5 years),
- during the first line treatment of hormone-dependent advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women
- postmenopausal women in the treatment of advanced breast cancer who have relapsed or progressed and have previously been treated with anti-endocrine drugs
- to postmenopausal patients in the treatment of HER-2-negative neoadjuvant hormone-receptor positive breast cancer for whom chemotherapy is not recommended and immediate surgery is not possible.
Lametta – contraindications
The drug should not be used in premenopausal women and during pregnancy. Another precluding factor is hypersensitivity to the active substance (letrozole) or any of the excipients.
- Breast cancer. What do the statistics say? How many women die from breast cancer?
Lametta – precautions
When taking the drug, the patient’s hormonal status is important, therefore Before starting its use, the concentration of LH, FSH and / or estradiol should be checked. Lametta can only be used in postmenopausal women, therefore in women before the selection of the drug is based on the analysis of positive and negative effects. In women with Ccr <10 ml / min, the positive effects of the drug were not confirmed.
Women with known osteoporosis and / or fractures at high risk of osteoporosis should have bone densitometry, i.e. bone mineral density, before starting treatment. Additionally, they should be monitored on an ongoing basis for the development of osteoporosis during and after treatment.
So far, the safety and effectiveness of the drug in children has not been confirmed. Therefore, it is not used to treat children. The situation is similar in the case of men – the positive effect of the drug has not been scientifically confirmed. The preparation contains lactose, therefore in people with intolerance to this substance, the advantages and disadvantages must be weighed and then a decision on the use should be made. If the benefits outweigh the drug, it can be used. Additionally, the drug contains an azo dye, so it should also be avoided by people with allergic problems.
