Laktomag is used in states of magnesium deficiency. Magnesium hydrogen aspartate is the active substance of the preparation and determines the correct course of the synthesis reaction. Patients with severe renal insufficiency or heart problems should not take the drug. Laktomag is in the form of tablets to be taken orally and is sold without a prescription.

Laktomag – indications and dosage

Laktomag is a drug recommended for use in states of magnesium deficiency.

Dosage of the preparation

Laktomag is in the form of tablets to be taken orally. They can be chewed and given to young children after being crushed and mixed with water.

Prophylactically

  1. Adults. Usually 1 tablet. 3 × / d.
  2. Children from 1 year of age 1 / 2-1 tabl. 2-3 × / d.

Healing

  1. Usually 5 mg Mg2 + / kg bw. in 3 days division

Laktomag and contraindications

Contraindications to taking Laktomag are:

  1. allergy to any component of the preparation, severe renal failure,
  2. hypermagnesemia,
  3. atrioventricular block,
  4. slow heart rate <50 beats / min,
  5. myasthenia gravis,
  6. parkinsonism treated with levodopa without the use of a peripheral levodopa decarboxylase inhibitor,
  7. severe arterial hypotension,
  8. gastrointestinal absorption disorders,
  9. diarrhea,
  10. Lactomag B6 should not be used in hypervitaminosis B6.

Laktomag – warnings

  1. Patients with renal or heart problems should consult a physician before taking the preparation.
  2. Laktomag should not be taken on an empty stomach.
  3. Laktomag contains aspartame (a source of phenylalanine) and may be harmful for patients with phenylketonuria.
  4. In the case of using tetracyclines, a 3-hour interval should be left between the administration of the antibiotic and magnesium compounds.
  5. Before taking the drug in pregnant women or during breastfeeding, a doctor should be consulted, because there are insufficient data on the safety of the preparation in these periods.

Lactomag and other substances

  1. The magnesium contained in Laktomag may reduce the absorption of theophylline, tetracyclines, iron compounds, fluoride compounds and oral anticoagulants from the warfarin group.
  2. Diuretics, cisplatin, cycloserine, mineralocorticosteroids increase the excretion of magnesium in the urine.
  3. Reduction of magnesium absorption due to dietary intake can be caused by: phosphates, high doses of calcium, excess lipids and phytates.
  4. Aminoglycosides, muscle relaxants and colistin used simultaneously with magnesium preparations may cause muscle paralysis.
  5. As a result of urine alkalinization, the renal excretion of quinidine decreases, which is associated with the risk of overdose.
  6. Vitamin B6 (contained in Laktomag B6) may decrease the concentration of phenytoin in the blood serum.
  7. Taking cycloserine, hydralazine, isoniazid, penicillamine and oral contraceptives leads to an increased need for vitamin B6.

Laktomag – side effects

During the treatment with Laktomag preparation, the following may occur:

  1. nausea,
  2. vomiting,
  3. loose stools
  4. skin hyperemia,
  5. Long-term systematic intake of pyridoxine (vitamin B6 contained in Laktomag B6) in a dose of 50 mg / day may cause peripheral sensory neuropathy, while doses above 200 mg / day may lead to folic acid deficiency, respiratory disorders and various types of dermatoses.
