Lactulosum is a drug used in gastroenterology and family medicine for the symptomatic treatment of constipation and liver failure. The preparation acts on the gastrointestinal tract, has a slight laxative effect and reduces the absorption of ammonia into the blood. Lactulosum is available as a syrup and is dispensed without a prescription.
