The body tries to compensate for the lack of sleep with this hormone. As a result, people who are nocturnal have a feeling of hunger. It is noteworthy that when a person sleeps, his body produces the hormone leptin, which suppresses appetite.
Experts also found that people who sleep less than 5 hours a day are 2,5 times more likely to develop diabetes than those who sleep the required number of hours. At the same time, they are twice as likely to get a heart attack as compared to those who get enough sleep. Lack of sleep is fraught with an increase in blood pressure and serious consequences in the form of depression, nervous disorders and even alcoholism.
