Lacidofil is a probiotic drug available in pharmacies without a prescription. This drug is used by pediatricians, family medicine doctors and gastroenterologists. Lacidofil is a protective drug and should be used during antibiotic therapy. Its task is to restore the natural bacterial flora in the digestive system.

Lacidofil – properties

Lacidofil is a probiotic, which means that it contains microorganisms that are beneficial to the human body. The properties of Lacidofil have been used during antibiotic treatment. When using antibiotic therapy, remember to maintain or restore the natural intestinal bacterial flora, which is damaged during treatment. You should know that it can cause diarrhea, vomiting, nausea or other side effects and should be brought back quickly.

Lacidofil can be purchased without a prescription. It is most often prescribed by pediatricians, family doctors and gastroenterologists. The active substance of Lacidofil is lactobacillus, i.e. live lactobacillinamely: Lactobacillus rhamnosus R0011 and Lactobacillus helveticus R0052. Lactic acid sticks occur naturally in the human intestines and constitute a natural protective barrier.

It is used to restore and maintain the natural bacterial flora in the digestive system. Thanks to this, we prevent secondary vitamin deficiencies, mycoses and yeasts. In addition, Lacidofil has a positive effect on the work of the intestines and facilitates defecation.

Lacidofil – action

Lacidofil has the task of:

  1. stopping the action of putrefying bacteria;
  2. inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria;
  3. improving lactose tolerance;
  4. improvement of intestinal peristalsis.

Lacidofil – indications

The indication for the use of Lacidofil is treatment with antibiotics. Its task is to maintain the natural intestinal bacterial flora. Like other protective agents, it is designed to prevent intestinal sterilization.

The preparation is recommended in the prophylaxis of travelers’ diarrhea and in the case of pseudomembranous colitis. The use of Lacidofil is of great importance in the case of children.

Lacidofil – contraindications

The only contraindication to the use of Lacidofil is hypersensitivity, i.e. allergy to any component of the drug. It should also not be used by people who are allergic to cow’s milk proteins or soy. Before administering the preparation, a doctor should be consulted if a person is known to be intolerant to some sugars.

So far, no other contraindications to the use of the preparation have been reported.

Lacidofil – dosage

Lacidofil should be taken with lunch every day for preventive purposes after and during antibiotic treatment and to prevent travelers’ diarrhea. You should then swallow 1 capsule of Lacidofil. The preparation can also be taken within 30 minutes after lunch.

It is much easier for children to give Lacidofil mixed with a drink or added to a meal. Any doubts related to the use of Lacidofil should be clarified with your doctor. The dosage is as follows:

  1. children up to 4 years of age – 1 capsule once a day;
  2. children between 4 and 12 years of age – from 1 to 2 capsules a day;
  3. adults and adolescents over 12 years of age – 1 capsule three times a day.
Important!

Lacidofil should be used for a minimum of 10 days, i.e. from the first day of antibiotic therapy or the day before and during the trip.

The dosage of Lacidofil is different when used for therapeutic purposes in pseudomembranous colitis and as adjunctive therapy during and after antibiotic therapy. The dosage is as follows:

  1. infants – 1 capsule once a day;
  2. children between 1 and 4 years of age – 1 capsule twice a day;
  3. children between 4 and 12 years of age – 1 capsule three times a day;
  4. adults and adolescents over 12 years of age – 1 or 2 capsules three times a day.

In this case, treatment should last a minimum of 14 days. So far no cases of overdose with Lacidofil have been reportedhowever, if you miss a dose, do not double the dose to make up for it.

Lacidofil – precautions

So far, no undesirable effects have been reported after the administration of Lacidofil. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor or pharmacist before using Lacidofil. It should be remembered that at this time, especially for a woman, consult a doctor about the administration of any medications.

In addition, Lacidofil has not been found to interact with other drugs, but always inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including those without a prescription, before starting use. The drug also has no effect on psychomotor skills and does not affect the ability to drive and use machines.

Before administering Lacidofil, a doctor should also be consulted by people who:

  1. have a fever, are vomiting or have severe stomach pain;
  2. suffer from acute pancreatitis;
  3. have a central venous catheter or have had surgery – this applies especially to patients with a history of myocarditis or endocarditis, people after cardiological or digestive surgery (including the oral cavity, e.g. after tooth extraction), because open wounds may initiate infection bacterial;
  4. have bloody diarrhea – especially infants and the elderly, as this may lead to the development of a bacterial infection;
  5. have immunity disorders or take medications that reduce immunity – this also applies to people after transplantation, during radiotherapy or chemotherapy, with impaired immune system, children born prematurely, people with AIDS, lymphomas or chronically treated with corticosteroids;
  6. children with short bowel syndrome who develop lactic acidosis, which may cause complications after the use of probiotics – in this group of patients, the administration of lactobacilli should be monitored so that it is discontinued in time in the event of an increase in blood lactate levels.

Lacidofil – side effects

Lacidofil, like any drug, can cause side effects, but it should be remembered that they will not occur in everyone. Hypersensitivity reactions such as rash or diarrhea have been reported in some cases. In this case, Lacidofil use should be discontinued until symptoms resolve.

Any other side effects of Lacidofil should be reported to a doctor or pharmacist, or directly to the Department for Monitoring Adverse Effects of Medicinal Products of the Office for Registration of Medicinal Products, Medical Devices and Biocidal Products in Warsaw.

Lacidofil – storage

Remember that Lacidofil is a probiotic, which means that it should be stored in the refrigerator at 2-8 degrees C. Outside the refrigerator, it can be kept for a maximum of 14 days at 25 degrees C. After this time, it should be discarded, even if has not been used up. It cannot be put back in the refrigerator if it has been stored outside. We keep the drug out of the sight and reach of children.
