Dr. Sutkowski: the practice is turned upside down
In an interview with the newspaper, Dr. Michał Sutkowski, spokesman for the College of Family Physicians, states that “the whole procedure is turned upside down”, and L4 is issued by a doctor of any specialization, regardless of the disease. «The right to practice is enough. Medical consultation over the phone in this case is nothing like the actual medical advice. It is a pauperization of our profession, a harmful activity and absolutely inconsistent with the code of medical ethics»- he comments.
Spokesman for the Social Insurance Institution, Paweł Żebrowski, confirms that there are abuses among doctors. As the journal writes, the analysis of the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) shows, for example, that the doctor was able to issue over 200 certificates daily, in several different medical entities. “In addition, he issued medical certificates to three different patients within one minute. In less than a year, Medyk issued nearly 20 certificates. Such abuses could be listed for a long time, »says Żebrowski.
ZUS, as reported by «GW», emphasizes that a sick leave may be issued only after the patient’s health condition has been examined, even at a distance. «For this reason, ZUS inspections are extremely often directed to the area of telemedicine. Since 2016, about 100 million electronic exemptions have been issued in Poland. Since then, over 2 million 700 thousand jobs have been carried out. inspections, in 2021 – over 350 thousand » – enumerates the log.
