First published 100 years ago, the work of the well-known publicist and philosopher L. Tikhomirov is today the absolute pinnacle in the world science of the state. Analyzing the principle of monarchical power on the example of the history of the Roman Empire, Byzantium and Russia, the author separates the autocratic (true) monarchy, based on a religious and moral ideal, and absolutism, which compromises the monarchical idea. The philosopher is convinced that a true monarchy has its advantages over democracy, and sooner or later society will adopt its principles.
