Quetaplex is a drug from the group of neuroleptics that is used in psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It is one of the drugs used to reduce the effects of existing diseases.

Kwetaplex – action

The main ingredient of the drug is kwetiina. It has an antipsychotic effect. It affects serotonergic and dopaminergic receptors. It inhibits the action of dopamine blocking receptors. Therefore it applies Kwetaplex in diseases such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Taking this medicine also prevents the recurrence of bipolar disorder in patients who have been taking it until now quetiapine in a different form. The drug prevents relapse of mania and depression in patients.

Kwetaplex – contraindications

Can not be used in case of allergy to quetiapine. During the first days after starting taking the drug, you may notice excessive sleepiness and great calmness, which may be disturbing for the patient. Only when these symptoms do not disappear after a maximum of 5 days, you should consult your doctor about taking the drug.

Contraindication to the use of the drug is concomitant use: inhibitors of the cytochrome P3 isoenzyme CYP4A450, such as protease inhibitors used in the treatment of HIV, azole antifungals, erythromycin, clarithromycin and nefazodone. Use of the drug during pregnant or breastfeeding is not recommended and you should always consult your doctor. The use of the drug requires the patient to stop the process of breastfeeding, as the drug may cause irreversible changes in the functioning of the baby’s brain.

Kwetaplex – side effects

Weight gain is a side effect. In patients taking Kwetaplex weight gain was observed. Weight should be monitored during treatment with the drug. The drug causes the concentration of glucose in the blood and lipids, which increases the metabolic risk, and therefore the risk of weight gain. Additionally, there may be: decrease in hemoglobin, increase in plasma triglycerides, increase in total cholesterol (mainly LDL), dizziness, somnolence, headache, dry mouth, withdrawal symptoms.

Kwetaplex – dosage

The preparation is available in coated tablets, which should be taken according to the doctor’s recommendations, depending on the type and course of the disease. The manufacturer of the drug Kwetaplex is the company Adamed.
