Kuban wines: overview, types and how they are made

Domestic alcoholic drinks, of course, are not as refined and famous as the products of French or Spanish factories. Nevertheless, among Russian wine producers there are quite a few worthy ones who have conquered not only the local, but also the world market.

One of these companies is Kuban-Vino, which has been producing still and sparkling drinks since 1956. Today, its structure includes three factories that produce about 56 million bottles of wine per year. And it all started with the construction of a small wine center in the village of Starotitarovskaya.

Production features

Raw materials for the production of Kuban drinks are grown on the Taman Peninsula, washed by two seas and located in a climate zone favorable for growing grapes.

It is believed that winemaking originated here about two thousand years ago. The Greeks were the first to share the intricacies of the wine craft with the local population.

Later, French grape varieties were brought to the Krasnodar Territory along with Western European technologies.

The neighborhood with Georgia also had a certain influence on the local culture of making and drinking intoxicating drinks. In some areas, you can even find wines aged in earthenware vessels.

Local drinks are produced according to the principle of a full cycle. This means that the fruits grown on our own plantations are sent for processing right after harvest.

Varieties cultivated by Kuban winemakers are the world famous Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon, Aligote, Riesling, as well as local Taman Rkatsiteli, Tsimlyansky Black, Amur, Frankovka and others.

The production process is as follows:

  1. The grapes arrive at the receiving point, where the fruits are weighed and the level of sugar content in them is determined.

  2. With the help of special machines, the berries are crushed and separated from the branches. Grinding is done in a gentle way to avoid rubbing the bones.

  3. The resulting mass (pulp) is pressed (the process is slightly different depending on the category of wine), divided into parts and fed into the storage tanks.

  4. The wort is cooled to 10-12 ° C and settled for a day.

  5. Future wine undergoes fermentation, white is additionally clarified (with the help of settling or a special installation).

  6. The resulting drink is stored in metal containers at a low temperature and undergoes further processing (blending, filtration, aging), the subtleties of which depend on the specific type of wine.

  7. The drink is bottled.

The procedure for making sparkling wine looks a little different: many operations are performed manually.

For the production of premium class champagne, the most delicate grape juice, the so-called “spontaneous” grape juice, is used.

In addition to steel tanks for storing wines, barrels made of different types of wood (Portuguese oak, acacia) are also used.

Assortment of Kuban wines

The company produces all types of grape drinks: white, red, rosé, sparkling, aged, budget and collection. Each of them finds its consumer. The most famous lines are:

  1. Angels and Demons

The collection includes white and red Cabernet. An expressive design detail is the wings on the label. Red has a characteristic ruby hue, notes of prunes and tobacco are clearly audible in the taste.
