Krasnogorsk refused to give the child to blind parents

The recent shocking case in the Moscow region, when the hospital did not want to give the child to the blind father and mother, stirred up the public. But this case is not an isolated one.

Ivan and Lilia Cherenev really wanted a child. Prepared: led a healthy lifestyle, gave up alcohol. Both work despite being visually impaired. We bought an apartment with a mortgage. In general, they approached the matter responsibly. And then it happened: at the end of August, Lilia gave birth to a daughter, completely healthy, and most importantly – a sighted girl. And on the day of discharge, wildness happened – the hospital said that they could not give the child to a family of disabled people. After all, this can be regarded as leaving the child in danger. How will two blind people care for a baby?

Ivan and Lilia assured that they were absolutely capable, that their grandmother would help them. But assurances were not enough. The hospital insisted that the grandmother write a statement that she takes responsibility for the safety of the newborn. Grandmother did not do this – in her opinion, it is humiliating and outrageous. The child was still given to Cherenev. True, after the intervention of the editor-in-chief of the radio of the All-Russian Society of the Blind. And Diana Gurtskaya, chairman of the Commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation for the support of families, mothers and children, asked the Prosecutor General to take control of the incident.

The guardianship authorities, of course, were informed about the situation. Which, in general, is absolutely normal. After all, if there are fears for the fate of the child, why not control the situation? You can, after all, attach a social worker to the family who will help the parents. But to threaten the removal of the girl from the family was definitely not worth it. Well, the statement that was offered to write to my grandmother. – this is nothing more than an attempt to cover their own rear, which has nothing to do with the safety of the baby.

In general, on the one hand, indignation and panic, on the other – rudeness. And somewhere in between, the interests of the child, which worried about the maternity hospital, most likely purely formally. Remember how long ago you heard that alcoholic mothers refused to give up their newborn? But declassed parents are much more likely to expect a child to grow like grass in a field.

It is curious what happened soon after a similar incident in America. They were going to remove the child from a family where the parents had an IQ below average. Officials justified their position by the fact that parents do not have enough intelligence to raise a child.

Add to this the controversy that regularly appears on the network: in order to adopt a child, you need to go through seven circles of bureaucratic hell, to prove your parental viability. And in order to give birth, you just need to give birth. And no one cares about your parental solvency anymore. In the comments to such a dispute, there are sure to be a couple of dozen chilling stories about mothers.

And here the idea of a parental aptitude test ceases to seem so wild. How many publications in the media that marginalized parents abandoned their children alone in the winter in a frozen house without food. How many cases of neglected or even fatal diseases in children, which they simply did not consider necessary to show the doctor in time. One story with HIV dissidents who treated their adopted daughter with prayers is worth it. Maybe it’s really worth introducing, say, certification of future parents?

However, this idea will remain only at the level of the idea. And thank God. After all, birth control is a direct violation of constitutional human rights. Imagine just being twirled under a microscope to see if you are worthy of having children. Is it humiliating? Undoubtedly. Who is in a position to assess whether these particular men and women are worthy of being parents or not? Probably no one.

Interview

Do you think we need tests for parental consistency?

  • The opinion is subjective, but sometimes you want to prohibit certain individuals from multiplying.

  • A license may not be needed, but it would be worth organizing courses for future parents – with the basics of psychology, an explanation of when you need to run to the doctor.

  • If a person poses a direct threat to the safety of children, of course, he needs to be isolated from them.

  • It is necessary that social services do their job: identify really dysfunctional families and control them.
