How to Treat Osteoarthritis?
After thyroid surgery, I gained about 12 kg. Currently, after prolonged walking and standing, I experience pain and lymphoedema in my knees. X-ray showed degenerative changes. Slightly elevated CRP. Taking glucosamine with vitamin C does not bring the expected relief. What else can I do?

Excess body weight can cause symptoms of osteoarthritis. Without a thorough examination, however, I am not able to say whether the problems described by the author of the letter are actually a consequence of the changes described in the radiograph, especially since the author mentions the existence of “lymphoedema” and an increase in inflammatory markers. Lymphedema is a sign of a chronic disturbance in the functioning of the circulatory system. This symptom is related to the obstruction of the flow in the lymphatic vessels. The presence of this pathology is not explained either by thyroid disease or by articular degeneration. I am not convinced of the effectiveness of glucosamine-containing preparations in the treatment of ailments related to degenerative changes in the joints, or of the beneficial effects of these substances on the course of the disease. Establishing guidelines for rational treatment requires, first of all, verifying the diagnosis of the disease and determining its impact on everyday functioning.
