They are a rare but most severe damage to the knee joint. They are often accompanied by damage to the ligaments and the joint capsule. Damage to the popliteal artery and peroneal nerve are also not uncommon.
This injury requires hospital treatment with immediate adjustment of the joint and observation of the blood supply and innervation of the limb. Depending on the patient’s age and the predominant symptoms, surgical, conservative or functional treatment is used.
