Klacid Uno – indications, contraindications, dosage, side effects

Klacid Uno is an antibacterial drug for systemic use. Macrolide antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It is indicated in the treatment of pharyngitis, sinusitis, middle ear and bronchitis. Infections of the skin and soft tissues (e.g. cellulitis, abscesses, erysipelas). The drug in the form of tablets is available on prescription.

Klacid Uno indications for use

Klacid Uno tablets are used to treat the following infections caused by clarithromycin-sensitive microorganisms:

  1. upper respiratory tract infections (e.g. streptococcal pharyngitis, sinusitis)
  2. acute otitis media,
  3. lower respiratory tract infections (e.g. bronchitis, pneumonia),
  4. skin and soft tissue infections (e.g. impetigo, folliculitis, cellulitis, abscesses, erysipelas).

Contraindications to the use of Klacid Uno

  1. Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation or other macrolide antibiotics,
  2. parallel use of astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, terfenadine, ergotamine or dihydroergotamine, statins (lovastatin or simvastatin),
  3. QT prolongation or arrhythmias (including heart rhythm disturbances) twist of points) in the past,
  4. hypokalemia,
  5. severe hepatic insufficiency coexisting with renal insufficiency.
  6. Do not use simultaneously with colchicine in people with impaired renal function or impaired liver function.

Dosage of Klacid Uno

Adults:

  1. The usual dose is 500 mg once a day. In severe infections, the doctor may increase the dose to 1 g once a day. Treatment usually lasts 1-1 days, and 5-14 days in pneumonia and sinusitis.

Kids:

  1. There are no data on the safety and effectiveness of the preparation in children.

In people with moderate renal insufficiency (creatinine clearance less than 60 ml / min but greater than 30 ml / min), it is necessary to adjust the dosage of Klacid Uno by a doctor. In this group of patients the maximum dose is 500 mg a day, and the drug should not be used for more than 14 days. In the case of people with severe renal insufficiency (creatinine clearance less than 30 ml / min), the use of the preparation is contraindicated, as the dose cannot be reduced (tablets cannot be divided). These patients will be advised by the doctor to use other forms of the preparation.

Klacid Uno tablets should be taken orally, swallowed whole (the tablets must not be divided or chewed). Taken with a meal.

Klacid Uno – warnings

  1. Caution is recommended in the elderly, with liver failure, coronary heart disease, severe heart failure.
  2. Do not use Klacid Unos with congenital or documented acquired QT prolongation or with a history of ventricular arrhythmias.
  3. Klacid Uno has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
  4. Long-term use of Klacid Uno may increase the number of non-susceptible bacteria and fungi (consult your doctor in this case).
  5. Pregnant women should consult a doctor before taking Klacid Uno (safety of use has not been established).
  6. Clarithromycin passes into breast milk, lactating women should consult a doctor before treatment.

Klacid Uno and possible side effects

They may appear, among others: increase in aspartate aminotransferase, itching, hives, muscle spasms, malaise, asthenia, chest pain, chills, fatigue, blood alkaline phosphatase increased, increased blood lactate dehydrogenase, gastritis, rectal pain, mucositis oral cavity, glossitis, constipation, dry mouth, belching, flatulence, increased alanine aminotransferase levels. The following may occur: pseudomembranous colitis, colitis, erysipelas, erythematous dandruff, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, anaphylactic reaction, hypoglycaemia, psychotic disorders, and confusional states.
