Kiwi: the benefits and harms of an exotic fruit

The tasty and healthy fruit gets its name from its similarity to the rare flightless kiwi bird. It is also often referred to as the Chinese gooseberry. China is considered the homeland of the fruit, but at the beginning of the XNUMXth century, it began to be grown in New Zealand.

Initially, kiwi fruits weighed only 25–35 grams, but over time, scientists managed to develop a new variety, the fruits of which reached 150 grams. It was in New Zealand that the fruit was called “kiwi” and nothing else. Now kiwi is grown in the USA, Chile, Italy, Greece, Iran, Japan, as well as in the Krasnodar Territory in Russia.

Kiwi is the healthiest fruit. Its pulp contains vitamins of group B (especially a lot of B6), A, B, D, E, folic acid, flavonoids, antioxidants, organic acids, vegetable protein (actinidin). Regular consumption of kiwi can lower blood pressure due to the intake of potassium in the body. Potassium has a beneficial effect on the walls of blood vessels, strengthening them and reducing the risk of thrombosis and atherosclerosis, and the magnesium contained in kiwi is very useful for the heart.

The calorie content of 100 grams of kiwi pulp is 61 kcal. Kiwi is high in enzymes that significantly speed up fat burning. Nutritionists advise eating one kiwi three times a day about half an hour before the main meal.

Doctors recommend eating this fruit as often as possible for those who have begun to turn gray. Kiwi is able to facilitate the elimination of cholesterol from the body, which can prevent blood clots and plaque formation. People who are suspected of having cancer are advised to eat at least 2-3 kiwis per week. This exotic fruit prevents the formation of kidney stones and is also able to flush out salt deposits from the body.

Despite its sweet taste, kiwi contains very little sugar, and therefore is allowed for people suffering from diabetes, as well as pregnant and lactating women.

Shortness of breath, dermatosis of the pharynx, swelling of the tongue are symptoms of an allergic reaction to kiwi, but it occurs in less than 0,5 percent of the world’s population. Kiwi is harmful to those who have gastritis with a high level of acidity of gastric juice, as well as those suffering from stomach ulcers. Do not overuse kiwi, as it contains a lot of water, which can put additional stress on the kidneys. Kiwi has a laxative effect, so you shouldn’t eat it in case of food poisoning.

Kiwi can be peeled and cut into pieces. Pulp cubes can be added to salad, and thin slices can be put on the meat and baked in the oven. Kiwi fruit makes delicious jelly and jam. Pork acquires a special taste and aroma if it is marinated in kiwi. However, it should be remembered that no more than a quarter of a small fruit should be added per kilogram of meat, otherwise the kebab will turn into mashed potatoes and the pieces will not be possible to put on skewers. If you want to eat the kiwi fresh, you can cut it in half and remove the flesh with a teaspoon.
