On September 17, a unique book «Killed in Katyn» is published. It contains the names and short biographies of 4415 Poles shot by the NKVD in the spring of 1940 and buried in the Katyn forest.
The book was published by the Memorial Society, and funds (more than 800 thousand rubles) for it were collected on the planeta.ru website. Collected a month ahead of schedule and in a larger volume than necessary. Collected despite the triumph of anti-sanctions against Polish apples, faith in the innocence of the fatherland, the bad economic situation, dachas and vacations.
Gathered by thousands of people who for some reason it is important to remember the names of the victims of the crime. For whom repentance is not an empty phrase and not the name of a “vintage” movie. They were collected by people about whom it is very important to know the most important thing today: they exist and there are many of them. With this knowledge it is much easier to live.
In Katyn, not four and a half thousand Poles died, but five times more. Memorial is already preparing the second book. And if you didn’t have time to donate for the first one, don’t be discouraged. The list of those whom we need to remember by name is very large and is not limited to Katyn alone. Enough donors.
