The word «kidult» comes from the English language (short for kid — child and adult — adult) and refers to adult children. Those who have passed the age of 30 and are considered a mature person, however, whatever one may say, one foot in childhood. The phenomenon mows down mainly the stronger sex, you will recognize scammers by their outfit (t-shirts and sweaters with cartoon characters, bright colors and teenage styles), outrageous manners, children’s hobbies (animated series, fantasy, computer games, collecting soldiers), addiction to expensive heaped novelties of progress . For the first time, they started talking about kidalism in the mid-80s, but right now it has reached a real boom. And he’s not going to slow down.
«Run on rooftops, chase pigeons»
The «father» of all scammers can be considered Peter Pan, the hero of the story of the same name by James Barry. Peter Pan is a boy who stubbornly did not want to grow up, dreamed of living on a magical island surrounded by pirates, fairies and the same children. Later, he had a book associate — a man in the prime of life, who likes to burst jam, rattle a propeller and play pranks. These two adorables gave the name to behavior beyond their age — Peter Pan syndrome or Carlson’s syndrome.
Do not confuse scammers with infantiles — irresponsible, spineless comrades who are good for nothing in life. They don’t want to work, they don’t think about heirs, it’s not their part to achieve success and conquer peaks. Infantiles only dream of a cozy little world under the wing of a strong-willed woman, usually a mother.
Scammers from a different test are successful, wealthy men who do not shy away from relationships with ladies. True, only as long as they do not encroach on their personal space, do not criticize T-shirts with Homer Simpson’s face and do not send a collection of aircraft models to a first-grader neighbor.
In a certain area, there is no price for scammers, as a rule, this is everything that is somehow connected with creativity. Computer bosses, designers, artists, photographers often come from scammers. If the occupation is pleasant, the eternal child can sit for days on the project, demonstrating stunning results. What allows a genius, large in stature, but small in soul, to make good money. And spend them on absolutely worthless, according to mature homo sapiens, things. Kidults do not bypass adult toys, such as cars, but they manage to choose the most frantic colors, like Jungle Fire or Blue Madness. And they complement the beauty with airbrushing with a portrait of the pirate Jack Sparrow.
This, perhaps, is the main drawback of kidalism: its manifestations cost a tidy sum. Marketers have long sniffed out that for the sake of the opportunity to return to childhood, many men are ready to pay an impressive jackpot, so robots appear on the shelves for 75 thousand USD or toilet paper holders with a built-in player — for 10 thousand. By the way, the range does not last long.
The leisure of scammers is rather monotonous, although, in their opinion, it is infinitely interesting. Watching animated series like «Futurama», «South Park», anime, shooting games on the computer, sending wagons on a toy railway, operating a radio-controlled tank, organizing Internet provocations «add your own to Hitler’s portrait». In general, the range of activities is indeed extensive. Yes, but it’s somehow ridiculous to see a 100-kilogram uncle yelling at the TV: “The threat from behind, Anakin Skywalker!” …

Of course, seeing how this or that overgrown kid is covered with a passion for a golden childhood, you involuntarily wonder why it is, what kind of pancakes he overate. Psychologists cite several reasons.
Firstly, the former boy did not finish playing in childhood. He studied, performed at the Olympics, played the violin, and his soul was eager for soldiers and tanks. Or, due to material circumstances, these “wealths” were not available to the boys. In a word, the child has grown — and here it is! Soldiers at least heaps, cars — and completely «forget to think.» Here is a 35-year-old naughty and realizes a childhood dream.
Secondly, kidalism is a departure from reality, which is rather cruel and evil. In reality, the poor fellow does not live, but suffers among these accountants, bosses, strict coordinators. The third reason is the unwillingness to take responsibility for oneself and those around. Although this is a general trend, the whole world strives for comfort, to pull teeth without pain, and cry only over melodramas. Therefore, the boys do not want to «plant a tree, build a house and raise a son», but want to always remain in a carefree time when the trees were big.

The brightest kidalt, of course, is Michael Jackson. Sometime in the early 80s, actress Jane Fonda and Michael Jackson met to discuss what film projects Jackson could take part in. Fonda recalled that Steven Spielberg plans to make a film about Peter Pan. Hearing this, Michael Jackson suddenly burst into tears and said that he considers himself a real Peter Pan — «a lost boy from a beautiful Fairyland.» Later it turned out that all the walls in Jackson’s house were hung with pictures of Peter Pan. While the trial was going on, in which Jackson was eventually acquitted, psychologists actively discussed how healthy such a craving to “be Peter Pan” and never grow up.
Another legendary American, George W. Bush, is also included in the scam. George is famous for his ridiculous Bushism statements, likes to be photographed in a cowboy «outfit» and the only one who fell off a Segway scooter. They joke that he previously studied the signed documents in the version of … comics. In principle, one can agree, but do not forget that the IQ of the former US president is below average. So he can be considered a scammer conditionally: he does not fall into childhood, but simply did not leave him.
And, of course, one cannot fail to mention our London compatriot Yevgeny Chichvarkin, the former owner of Euroset. At the best of times, Evgeniy showed an affection for shocking carnival costumes, backpacks with key chain toys and hooligan antics. So, with the light hand of this prankster, his offspring got an advertising slogan: «Euroset» — the prices are just about …. t! Once, on the eve of the New Year, he sent all competitors products, so to speak, of sex shops, providing the gifts with a dedicatory inscription: “Would you like a gift? And here you are…!” Note that the outrageous attack did not deal a blow to Chichvarkin’s reputation — what to take from him, dear playful child …
Compatible with life?
To date, there are no official statistics on scammers, but, according to psychologists, every fifth man is in their ranks. What are we women to do to ruthlessly cull every weirdo in a baby print T-shirt? No, it’s quite possible to coexist peacefully with scammers and even build relationships. The main thing is to get rid of illusions in advance, not to assign responsible assignments to him and try to control his spending.
The possibility of a relationship with an adult child is shown in the movie «Big», when the hero of Tom Hanks turned from a teenager into a hefty silly uncle one night. Who achieved dizzying success by getting a job in a toy factory. And he developed a relationship with the lady of his heart, however, his spontaneity “froze out” the aunt a little: either he would gobble up all the pizza, or prance on the trampoline instead of seducing and tempting her.
A similar story was described long before the film by Australian Colin McCullough, who gave the world the most poignant novel «Tim». In the story, 25-year-old Tim is a handsome man, but as good as he is, he is so devoid of reason, an eternal child. As a result, Tim finds his love (or she finds him) in the person of a respectable old maid, who only needs something from him, that tenderness, childlike purity, innocence and devotion.
In a word, as already mentioned, every fifth man is among the scammers. But no one can guarantee that the other four are sane, responsible uncles, completely devoid of vices and addictions. It is the situation when “for lack of a stamp, we write in simple”. In the end, scammers are able to provide for their families, earn money, they get along well with children, in general, they are good material for work. It will not be easy to get used to the fact that instead of the compliment “you are my goddess”, the praise “you are cool!” flies at your address, but … Let it be better in front of your eyes, under the supervision of “staring at cartoons”, than making intimate acquaintances with other people’s young ladies or interested in illegal drugs. Just think, there is one more child in the family, children are happiness.
