Description of cherry “Kharitonovskaya”
The variety has a number of advantages, but there are also disadvantages. It is appreciated for large berries with good taste, for resistance to diseases and medium frosts, for a stable harvest. The disadvantage is poor transportability, which complicates the transportation of the product.
The plant has the following description:
- The tree is up to three meters in height, lives for more than 30 years.
- The leaves are dark green, elliptical, sparsely located on the branches.
- Fruits are dark red, sweet and sour, large. They are suitable for canning and fresh consumption.
- The stone of the fruit is large, which is considered a disadvantage of this variety.
“Kharitonovskaya” feels good in the neighborhood of “Zhukovskaya” and “Vladimirskaya”. These varieties contribute to pollination and better fruiting.
Planting and caring for Kharitonovskaya cherries
Cherry variety “Kharitonovskaya” is unpretentious, but with good care the yield can be significantly increased. There are a number of necessary measures:
- Selection of seedlings. It is better to purchase them in proven farms. If there are no such ones and you have to take them on the market, you need to take a closer look at the product. The roots should be well developed, and there should be no signs of disease on the stem and buds.
- Correct fit. The tree loves a sunny place, and with a lack of light, part of the crop is lost.
- Trimming the crown. A mature tree needs to be cleaned regularly and excess branches that put a lot of stress on the tree should be removed. By pruning, it will bear fruit well in a year.
- Whitewashing the trunk in the spring. This exercise protects cherries from sunburn and disinfects.
- Removing fallen leaves. Leaves are a source of diseases for the tree, and small pests hibernate in them.
“Kharitonovskaya” reproduces by grafting. The seeds give strong shoots, but the fruit of such a seedling will be of a different variety. It can be used as a scion from a varietal tree.
It is better to plant cherries in the fall, since spring plantings take root worse. The plant can be found in many gardens of the Central Black Earth regions. The climate of these regions is quite favorable for this variety.
