Keys for the recovery of the HORECA sector

The Hospitality sector is facing one of its most important challenges, as a result of the changes brought by the coronavirus pandemic

Eurofred has released the keys to the recovery of the HORECA sector, the result of the organization of a round table under the title “The impact of Covid-19 in the Horeca sector: recovery strategies”.

In this meeting, topics such as the forecasts and expected recovery opportunities for this sector, after the serious crisis caused by the pandemic, the positive effects of Covid-19, the trends and challenges of the future, the prevention measures that must be adopted or the role of digitization in recovery, among other issues.

And then we are going to review the most relevant conclusions drawn from this round table.

Round table participants

The participants of the event organized by Eurofred have been:

  • Mario saltor: Horeca Business Unit Director of Eurofred
  • Alfonso Pastor: Managing Director at Grupo Caterdata
  • Pablo Canestri: Commercial Director of Oms y Viñas
  • Victor Delgado: Manager of Decofrío

In short, this round table has had the presence of experts within the HORECA sector, who know, first-hand, the recovery strategies proposed for this sector.

Flexibility and adaptation: the two keys to the recovery of the HORECA sector

According to the participants of the round table, flexibility and adaptation are the two keys that will mark the recovery of the HORECA sector. As ario Saltor points out, it is fundamental “work in a flexible way, adapted to the circumstances, analyzing and looking for new solutions ”.

And, especially, companies must find a way to adapt to new customer needs. Pablo Canestri, for his part, highlights that it is “The moment to seek agile and pragmatic solutions, bet on new talent, professionalize and find opportunities where others do not see them.”

The market is in an open moment, and it is the responsibility of companies “to create value through quality, emotion, differentiation and the zero kilometer of truth.”

The importance of tourism and professionalization

Another relevant aspect has been the importance of tourism and professionalization within the HORECA sector, Alfonso Pastor has been in charge of remembering it: “Without tourism, there is nothing to do, no matter how much we reinvent ourselves”.

Obviously, we cannot give up millions of tourists, but neither can professionalisation be put aside: clients are becoming more and more demanding.

In addition, competition is increasing, especially after the “boom” of home delivery platforms or those known as dark kitchens.

The role of technology in hospitality

And finally, the experts recalled the importance of digitization in the recovery of the HORECA sector. As Victor Delgado points out, “Data control tools are important, so all those ideas with an innovative character can succeed, even through small business models”.
