Ketoprom for muscle and joint pain – how to use?

Ketoprom is a gel used topically in post-traumatic muscle and joint pain and tendinitis. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and a propionic acid derivative. Avoid using the gel on large surfaces and exposure to the sun during and two weeks after use. The preparation is available without a prescription.

Ketoprom – indications and dosage

Ketoprom gel is a product recommended for use:

  1. in post-traumatic pain in muscles and joints,
  2. in the treatment of tendinitis.

Dosage

Ketoprom is a gel and is intended for external use. Massage the gel into the sore spot. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose and continue the treatment for more than 7 days.

  1. Adults and adolescents after 15 years of age 2-4 g (3-5 cm) use twice a day.

Ketoprom and contraindications to use

What are the contraindications to the use of Ketoprom gel?

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation, acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,
  2. skin changes,
  3. rash,
  4. blemishes,
  5. wounds,
  6. skin damage or infections,
  7. bronchial asthma or active or history of allergic disease,
  8. a history of skin allergy to: thiaprofenic acid, phenobarbital, cholesterol-lowering drugs, sunscreen or perfume,
  9. use in people who experienced allergy symptoms in the form of an attack of asthma, urticaria or acute rhinitis after administration of acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
  10. use in children up to 15 years of age,
  11. use by pregnant women from the 6th month.

Ketoprom – warnings

  1. Ketoprom gel should not be used on large surfaces.
  2. Follow the recommended daily doses of the preparation.
  3. In the event of skin lesions / allergies, treatment should be discontinued immediately.
  4. Do not lubricate the mucous membranes (genitals, eye) with the gel.
  5. Do not use occlusive dressings on lubricated areas.
  6. People with heart failure, renal and hepatic dysfunction should exercise caution.
  7. Use protective gloves when massaging the gel into the skin for a long time.
  8. Avoid exposure to the sun (including a solarium) for two weeks after completing the treatment.
  9. The use of Ketoprom in pregnant women is not recommended.
  10. The use of the gel until the 6th month of pregnancy is prohibited, while pregnant women up to the 5th month may use the gel only after consulting a doctor and if necessary.
  11. Avoid using the preparation during breastfeeding.

Ketoprom with other drugs

Ketoprom is absorbed into the blood in about 5%, therefore interactions with other preparations are unlikely.

Ketoprofen can:

  1. inhibit the excretion of methotrexate, lithium salts,
  2. reduce the effect of diuretics (thiazide, furosemide).

Ketoprom, when used simultaneously with other anti-inflammatory drugs, may increase their effects, including an attack of bronchial asthma.

Ketoprom and side effects

When using Ketoprom gel may occur:

  1. local skin reactions (erythema, contact eczema, urticaria, pruritus).
  2. very rare: photosensitivity, dermatitis vesicular, anaphylactic reactions, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation.
