Ketonal is a very strong pain reliever, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic drug, used in the treatment of rheumatic diseases, acute pain syndromes and traumatic injuries.

Ketonal action

Ketonal is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, a derivative of propionic acid. It is used to soothe pain in the lumbar region, muscle pain, rheumatic pain, sprains and strain injuries, post-traumatic pain and swelling, mild or moderate arthritis pain. Locally. 1–2 × / d. 5 cm of gel corresponds to 100 mg of ketoprofen. Total dose max., Regardless of the pharmaceutical form, 300 mg / d. The use of occlusive dressings is not recommended.

When not to use the drug?

Contraindication to the use of Ketonal is hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation, salicylates or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, bronchial asthma or a history of allergy. Ketonal should not be used in people who have had asthma attacks in the past after taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or in children under 15 years of age. The drug must not be administered to damaged or diseased skin or to women in the third trimester of pregnancy and during breastfeeding.

Ketonal – what not to do?

Ketonal should not be used for a long time without consulting a doctor. Do not use on large surfaces. In the event of redness, itching, burning sensation or dry skin, discontinue treatment and consult a physician. If you experience severe side effects (asthma attack, photoallergic reaction after exposure of the treated area to UV rays, severe and rapidly spreading skin reaction), stop using the medicine immediately and contact your doctor or the nearest hospital. Protect the eyes and mucous membranes from contact with the preparation. Use caution in people with heart failure, renal or hepatic impairment. It’s best to wash your hands thoroughly after applying Ketonal. For 2 weeks after the end of treatment, avoid exposure of the skin to the sun’s rays (including solarium).

Ketonal and pregnancy

It is not recommended for use in women in the first and second trimester of pregnancy. In the third trimester of pregnancy, the use of Ketonal is contraindicated. Women in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy may use the preparation only after consulting a doctor and only if absolutely necessary. Ketoprofen passes into breast milk. The preparation should not be used during breastfeeding.

The use of Ketonal and other drugs

When applied topically, the interactions of Ketonal with other drugs are insignificant. However, caution should be exercised in patients taking methotrexate or probenecid; ketoprofen reduces the elimination of these drugs, thereby increasing their toxicity. Do not use other topical preparations containing ketoprofen or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Ketonal – side effects

Allergic reactions (itching, redness, rash, asthma attack, anaphylactic reaction, mild contact dermatitis, photosensitivity reactions, urticaria, occasionally renal dysfunction) may occur. If you experience severe side effects, see your doctor immediately.
