Ketoconazole is an antifungal preparation with an active substance of the same name. It is intended for systemic use, and indications for its use are fungal infections caused by Candida fungi and other chronic fungal conditions of the vagina, infections of the digestive system caused by yeasts, as well as internal infections of the skin, hair and nails caused by dermatophytes and yeasts, including mycosis of the skin and nails, as well as severe dandruff.
Ketoconazole is in the form of tablets containing 200 mg of the active ingredient. The package contains 10 or 20 oral tablets. Ketoconazole it is also found in the form of an ointment, but the concentration of the active substance is then lower than in the case of tablets.
Ketoconazole is a prescription preparation. The dose of the drug is always adjusted by the doctor, so you must not increase it yourself or stop the treatment. In the case of gastrointestinal infections, the most common dose is 200 mg per day, and in the case of vaginal mycosis, 400 mg. The drug is taken with a meal. Ketoconazole – contraindications and side effects
A contraindication for use drug Ketokonazol is allergic to the active substance or any of the ingredients. The drug should not be used by young children and people suffering from liver failure. Before issuing a prescription, tell your doctor about any facts you are taking, about being pregnant or breastfeeding, as the drug passes into your milk. In addition, the drug contains lactose, therefore people suffering from intolerance to this substance should inform their doctor.
The most common side effects are various types of digestive system disorders: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea, as well as skin effects in the form of hives, itching or rash. Dizziness and dysregulation of the menstrual cycle are less frequent, and men have alopecia and impotence. Sometimes there are also symptoms of jaundice, which is associated with reduced liver efficiency. In most cases, side effects drug induced Ketoconazole disappear spontaneously after discontinuation of the preparation.
