Many women wonder why do Kegel exercises. What are they supposed to be used for and how to find time for them in this rush of life. Dear Ladies, this article is just for you to show you how important these seemingly invisible muscles are.

Kegel muscles located in the lower abdomen, they can be called by different names: pelvic floor muscles, pubococcygeus muscle, but it is always the same set of muscles and ligaments that support the abdominal organs from below. They form a kind of “bridge” connecting the pubic bone and the coccyx, surrounding the urethral opening and the rectum.

If Kegel muscles they are tense, they support the organs well, making sure they stay in place. Stairs appear when these muscles begin to relax and slack, then our “bridge” begins to fall and we are in trouble.

Both pregnancy and childbirth are situations in which the muscles around the vagina and perineum stretch almost to the limit, in no other period of our lives do we deal with such a phenomenon. However, it can be prevented with a little effort.

Kegel muscles they owe their name to the American doctor Arnold Kegel, who invented a set of exercises to strengthen the pubococcygeal muscle. The most important purpose of these exercises is to teach women to control and strengthen the uterine fundus. The exercises are very simple, they mainly consist of tightening the muscles of the vagina and anus for about 10 seconds and repeating this action at short intervals, starting with 5 repetitions and ending with 25, of course, if possible. It is important to do them regularly.

It should be remembered that Kegel muscles, although invisible to the naked eye, perform a very important function:

  • they participate in supporting the uterus, protecting it from prolapse,
  • effectively control the bladder, preventing stress urinary incontinence,
  • are very helpful in enhancing sexual sensations, sex will be better than ever before
  • it is worth practicing them during pregnancy, because they significantly facilitate childbirth, and after it we get in shape faster.

In Poland, Kegel exercises are not very popular and performed, while in some countries the tradition of these exercises is passed from mother to daughter. Kegel muscle exercises should be started by young women because it is an investment for the future, but they can be done at any age. Kegel exercises are also recommended for men as a treatment for urinary incontinence. Kegel musclesbecause they are easy, painless and, above all, effective. They can be done at any time and in any place and they take really little time, although the results are visible only after a few weeks, but it is worth taking care of yourself, your health and well-being.
