Winter, cold. Woman’s Day learned how to keep warm from science. Learn from those who know firsthand how to withstand the cold outdoors. We master the methods that climbers use in the wild.
1. Exercise or warm up
During a long wait, for example at a bus stop, the limbs gradually begin to freeze, and in order to prevent them from further cooling, you should do a little exercise, thereby improving blood circulation, and therefore blood flow to the cooled parts of the body.
To warm your hands, it is enough to make vigorous rotational movements with your hands from your shoulders, and now your hands are filled with warmth. Your legs will warm up well after several ascents and descents along the nearest ladder, and if no ladder is found nearby, you can go up and down on toes several times.
2. Loose clothing in several layers
Since air is a natural heat insulator, in other words, it prevents the release of heat into the environment, it is in our interest to have as much of it as possible between the layers of clothing. It is for this reason that knitted sweaters, scarves, mittens and hats are relevant in winter – there is a lot of air between the threads of the yarn, which creates a layer that insulates the heat.
3. Hot tea from a thermos
It is hot tea, not coffee, that can effectively warm you. An additional advantage will be if you add spices like ginger or cinnamon to it, as well as honey. Remember how good it is to hold a hot mug of tea with lemon in your hands after skating …
4. High-calorie food
A piece of bacon with mustard not only relieves the cold, but also gives a feeling of warmth and comfort – both during and after consumption. If you do not want to constantly freeze, it is better to postpone the diet until warm times and focus on fatty foods, since in the literal sense of the word it is fuel for the body. Eat a solid meal before leaving the house – and no cold will scare you! In this case, hot spices act as an excellent assistant, causing blood flow to the internal organs.
5. Silence
You will be surprised, but a person loses about 90 percent of the heat through the surface of the lungs, therefore, during frosts, the expression “silence is gold” is especially relevant. Use a scarf as a face mask to reduce heat loss in the body.
6. Heating pads
In warming the body, catalytic and salt heating pads have proven themselves well. Their action is based on a chemical process of heat release over a long period of time. Due to their small size (fit in a breast pocket), availability (you can buy them in sports stores), low cost (within 2000 rubles) and efficiency (they can keep you warm for more than one hour), they will become wonderful companions in the cold season.
Tourists, hunters, fishermen put such a heating pad inside a sleeping bag, use it to dry shoes and mittens. You can use it in the city by placing it in an inner pocket or hanging it around your neck in a case with a drawstring. A hot heating pad spreads heat throughout the body.
7. Massage with aromatic oils
Various oils and incense will help turn the warming process into a very pleasant event. When you return from the cold, ask your partner to massage you – vigorous movements will disperse the blood, warm frozen limbs, relax muscles and lift your spirits. After you get warm, massage your soul mate.
