Vaccination against COVID-19 does not make us immune to the infection. The main purpose of the vaccine is to protect against severe disease, hospitalization and death. In Poland, the number of cases is constantly growing. Among those infected are also those who are fully vaccinated. One of them is Katarzyna, who told us about her symptoms.

  1. Katarzyna is another person to contract the coronavirus a few months after taking two doses
  2. – I am not disappointed that the vaccine did not work, I am even relieved that I did not have to go through it as an unvaccinated person – he says in an interview with Medonet

COVID-19 in Vaccinated People. «Like a long, painful cold»

Kasia is fully vaccinated. The second dose of vaccination was taken at the beginning of June. However, it did not avoid COVID-19 infection. As she revealed in an interview with Medonet, among her friends there are also some people who fell ill after two vaccinations.

He describes his coronavirus as “a long, painful cold”.

– The first symptom was back pain, reminiscent of root pain. After that, my condition worsened by the hour. I was fine, and then more symptoms started to appear. Everything started to hurt, my whole body, bones, and a headache. This worried me. I measured my fever, it was 38 degrees. It made me think, because it looked different than with colds, which I had quite often recently, because I never have a fever then – says Kasia.

So I figured it was either the flu or COVID-19. I had a cassette test at home, did it and it turns out I have a virus. It was a surprise because even though I felt it was something other than a cold, I didn’t expect to catch covid after vaccinations – he adds.

  1. How do the vaccinated get sick? «I felt like someone was tearing my skin off»

– I had a headache for two days, a fever, but not more than 38, and my sinuses ran down the back wall, my nose was blocked, but without a runny nose. I was weakened, but not all the time. In the morning it was okay, but after a few hours I was cut off my legs – she lists the symptoms.

Coronavirus. Coughing up to vomiting

Over time, other symptoms of the infection began to appear. – After two days the fever passed, the sinuses remained. After four or five days, a very severe sore throat developed. I couldn’t swallow, eat. So I was taking painkillers. My sense of smell and taste have weakened, not completely, only partially. I was eating and I didn’t know what I was eating. I felt strong flavors like red borscht, but not tea or sandwiches. One night I lost my sense of smell. It only lasted a few hours, because it came back during the day – says Kasia.

Many vaccinated people say that COVID-19 infection resembles a common cold, Kasia is no exception. However, she reveals that she had stronger colds, with a constant, persistent runny nose. With COVID-19, the runny nose did not appear.

– With my symptoms it was different, for two days it was better, then something again. I also had diarrhea for a day, but I don’t know if it was a symptom of COVID-19, he adds.

– After a week he started coughing. It wasn’t what I expected, it wasn’t dry, just wet. I have this discharge all the time, mainly in the morning and in the middle of the night. I’m still coughing up. It feels like I have eaten half a bucket of glue and have to throw it away. The cough was almost vomiting, though I didn’t vomit in the end, ‘he says.

  1. Expert: Flu and COVID-19 vaccines can be given in one visit

Back pain also appeared, another very common symptom, not only in the vaccinated. The pain was such that I thought it was pneumonia, it stung under the shoulder blade. I consulted the doctor about it, in her opinion it was neuralgia related to coughing. So I took painkillers and it helped – says Kasia.

– The times when my back stung and I had coughing attacks were the hardest. I felt like a tuberculosis. I was reminded of my grandfather who died of lung cancer, who was coughing so badly before holding onto his chest.

Infection in All Saints

How could you get infected? Kasia suspects that it could have been enough during the family reunion.

– Nobody brought it home, I was the first in the family. I suppose I got infected in All Saints from someone in my family. There were a few of us at the meeting, all vaccinated, and only I got infected. I had no contact with anyone else. Another explanation could be that I got caught in the city, says the woman.

  1. Which vaccine for the third dose? What combination is the most effective? [UPDATE]

– The entire infection lasted two weeks. I didn’t feel that it was very bad and I had to go to the hospital, but it wasn’t completely gentle either. Such a sine wave. After that cough, I thought to myself that I wouldn’t want to go through this without a vaccination. Similarly with this muscle pain, if it could last longer, I don’t know what it would be – she adds.

– I vaccinated with Pfizer, took the second dose in June. The fact that I did get infected, however, surprised me a bit. But during those six months before that, I felt confident. I dealt with the sick, in my family, with neighbors, and they asked us how we survived. I wasn’t afraid for myself, more for my parents. They both work all the time, use transport – says Kasia.

– But when I caught the damn thing, it got nerves. We had the example of a neighbor who had been through this very hard in April, even before he was vaccinated. So we were a bit stressed – he adds.

Coronavirus. Pneumonia in a three-year-old girl

Kasia has two daughters, the older one is already vaccinated, the younger, three-year-old not yet. – I erased my daughters myself, and both the results were negative. But the younger one caught inflammation of one lung, throat and ear. The doctor said it could be RSV superinfection, and maybe COVID-19. It was pretty hardcore, she was getting steroids and injections. If it were not for this, she would probably end up in the hospital – says the woman.

  1. New restrictions in Poland. Are you for or against? [PROBE]

– So when I was sick, I was more afraid for her. Because when she was ill before, it never went down to her bronchi or lungs. Always a runny nose and a cough, but auscultatory clean. Suddenly she was coughing very badly, she had dark circles under her eyes, and she was holding her chest while coughing. As I told the doctor, she ordered me to come immediately because it was a symptom of pneumonia. And it was confirmed – he adds.

– She was the biggest stress for me. I was afraid that she would end up in the hospital and I wouldn’t be able to be with her and it would affect her badly. She is small, vulnerable, unvaccinated. After all, a child in a hospital is always a great stress – emphasizes Kasia.

The vaccine helped. “I encourage everyone to get vaccinated”

The fact that in the fourth wave of the pandemic also affects the group of vaccinated people is being said more and more often. According to Kasia, this is not a reason to question the validity of vaccinations.

  1. Dzieiątkowski: the government is bending to the dictates of an extremist group

– I did not feel disappointed in some way that the vaccine did not work, I was more relieved that I did not have to go through it as an unvaccinated person because then it could have been a lot worse. I was hopeful, I knew that since I was vaccinated, it would be ok. Except for the moment when I was caught by this neuralgia – he says in an interview with us.

– I will definitely take the third dose, but I don’t know yet how much time has to elapse after the infection. And, of course, I encourage everyone to vaccinate – she emphasizes.

“With the news that I am vaccinated and at the same time healed, I feel relieved, I am no longer afraid. I have it behind me – adds Kasia.

The vaccinated also contract the coronavirus

As a reminder, people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are strongly protected against severe disease, hospitalization and death. They are not 100% protected. before the infection itself, often called “breakthrough” in this case. As specialists emphasize, none of the vaccines currently in use offers complete protection in this regard.

  1. Even after vaccination, we are at risk of becoming infected with COVID-19. This is determined by four factors

– It would be too good for a vaccine to be developed that 100 percent. it will solve all problems and will operate for a minimum of two years. The situation was special because the virus had already spread. The coronavirus continues to mutate, as do the flu viruses. The effectiveness of flu vaccines fluctuates at the level of 50%, so you can see that these initial assumptions were too optimistic – says Dr. Michał Chudzik, coordinator of the “STOP-COVID” program recently.

The first signals of “breakthrough” infections began pouring in from Israel a few months ago. This country was the first to massively vaccinate its citizens. The vaccination program began in December last year. At the end of February, over 50 percent. of the country’s citizens had received at least one dose of the vaccine, and by the end of March, half of the population had been fully vaccinated.

Over time, more and more evidence has emerged that the level of protection against COVID-19 infection is declining a few months after vaccination. Subsequent studies showed that this efficacy decreased on average six months after full vaccination. And during this time, the Delta variant of the coronavirus, especially contagious, became widespread in the world.

These two factors – the declining efficacy of the vaccine over time and the more dangerous Delta variant – have led to infections in a proportion of those who were fully vaccinated as well.
