Biodegradable nanocellulose dressing – this is the work of Karol Bocian, XNUMXth year student of biotechnology at the University of Technology and Life Sciences in Bydgoszcz. The innovative dressing protecting against infections and supporting wound healing has already been appreciated and awarded in Poland and abroad.
A new type of hydrogel nanocellulose dressings designed by a student-inventor has healing and wound healing properties. As its creator emphasizes, thanks to the dressing, the wound breathes and the scars are less visible.
The innovative dressing uses an extract of plantain, containing active substances that accelerate healing. The effectiveness in this respect is increased by the use of nanosilver, which has strong bactericidal properties, also against strains of bacteria resistant to strong antibiotics, e.g. staphylococcus aureus.
Karol Bocian’s invention is the result of his collaboration with the 10th Military Teaching Hospital in Bydgoszcz. The co-authors of the successful project are: Dr. Agnieszka Grzelakowska and Dr. Paweł Grzelakowski.
The invention was already appreciated at the 61st International Trade Fair of Invention, Research and New Techniques Brussels Innova in Brussels and awarded with a gold medal. Recently, he was also awarded one of the five main prizes of this year’s edition of the National Student-Inventor Competition, organized by the Kielce University of Technology.
My biggest dream is the possibility of conducting clinical trials related to the use of my dressing and further research on nanocellulose – revealed Karol Bocian. As he noted, in biotechnology he is fascinated by the wealth of possibilities for new discoveries and the rapid development of this field of science.
My passion is related to my interests. For as long as I can remember, I have always been interested in chemistry and biology. The field of study that I chose allowed me to broaden my horizons, explore the necessary knowledge, and also allowed me to develop my passions and interests – added the inventor.
The student-inventor, apart from his basic field, is also interested in chemistry and botany, in particular active substances found in medicinal plants. In addition, he sings as a tenor in the Academic Choir of the University of Technology and Life Sciences, which has won numerous awards, and with this ensemble he attends international competitions and festivals.
