Hypertension is one of the most common ailments that affects people of all ages. In order to lower blood pressure, you should take specific medications. One of them is Karbis in tablets.

Karbis – action

Karbis, or candesartan, is a drug in the form of tablets that is used in cardiology in the case of diseases and ailments of the cardiovascular system. It has an effect of lowering blood pressure and vascular resistance. Due to the active substance, candesartan cilexetil, it is recommended in patients with heart failure or impaired systolic function of the left ventricle as an adjunct.

Karbis – dosage

Karbis is intended to be taken orally. The dose of the drug, as well as the frequency of its intake, is determined directly by a specialist doctor. Following its recommendations will result in an effective and safe treatment with Karbis. It is also advisable to read the leaflet before using the medical device.

It should be remembered that the drug and its dosage are determined according to the health needs of a given patient and his specific diseases. Therefore, Karbis cannot be shared with other patients or taken in other circumstances.

Karbis tablets should not be consumed after the expiry date (described on the packaging). Keep the medicine out of the reach of children in a tightly closed container.

Karbis – contraindications

Contraindication to taking the drug for hypertension Karbis is:

  1. hypersensitivity to the active substance of the drug or any other excipient,
  2. severely impaired kidney or liver function,
  3. high levels of potassium in the blood
  4. heart diseases,
  5. taking other medications to lower blood pressure and other medications, even those over the counter,
  6. pregnancy, presumption of pregnancy, breastfeeding.

Karbis and pregnancy

It is not recommended to use Karbis in the first trimester of pregnancy, while taking tablets in the second and third trimesters is not recommended. The substances contained in the drug have a toxic effect on the development of the fetus. They cause, among others oligohydramnios, deterioration in kidney function, delay in ossification of the skull. Taking Karbis by pregnant women may also have effects on the health of the child after birth – provoke hypotension, renal failure or hyperkalemia.

Children whose mothers took Karbis during pregnancy should be carefully monitored for the development of hypotension. If the exposure to the substances contained in the preparation took place from the second trimester, it may be necessary to perform detailed fetal examinations – ultrasound of the kidneys and skull. Karbis contains candesartan which should also not be taken during lactation.

Karbis – side effects

The following side effects are likely to occur with the use of Candist:

  1. increase in the level of potassium in the blood,
  2. hypotension,
  3. headaches and dizziness,
  4. pain in the back, muscles and joints,
  5. respiratory tract infections,
  6. allergic reactions
  7. liver or kidney problems.

The producer of Korbis warns that side effects such as fatigue and dizziness may negatively affect psychomotor performance. This means that special care should be taken when operating machinery or driving vehicles during treatment.

Karbis is available on prescription in three variants according to the content of the active substance. The weakest is Karbis 8 mg, then Karbis 16 mg and Karbis 32 mg. The price of the drug, depending on the payment, ranges from PLN 15 to PLN 50. Popular substitutes for Karbis include Carzap, Candepres or Ranacand.
