Kamil Durczok died at the age of 53. This information was confirmed, inter alia, at the journalist’s family. Initially, information appeared that Durczok died in the hospital in Katowice-Ligota. The cause of the journalist’s death was to be an extensive internal hemorrhage. The hospital’s official statement, however, sheds new light on the matter. The journalist was in a very serious condition to the emergency room. His chronic disease was exacerbated and then cardiac arrest.

Kamil Durczok had cancer

In 2003, Kamil Durczok found out that he had cancer. He was driving in a car when the doctor called him. He wanted to convey this information to him personally, but the journalist insisted that he immediately say what was wrong. Durczok spoke openly about his illness in an interview with Piotr Najsztub.

A few days earlier, I had an operation in the hospital, I thought, related to an injury in preparation for the Paris-Dakar rally. I was convinced that I was after the normal removal of the hematoma, ligation of a blood vessel, although I knew that I had obtained material for histopathological examination. I thought it was routine. It was then that professor Ziaja called and asked if I could come over to him. After five seconds, I realized he wanted to talk to me and didn’t want to do it on the phone. I said, of course, I would come over and I had an appointment for the next day, Tuesday – it was Christmas Eve. I hung up and only then realized that this was going to be some serious conversation. I immediately called him back and said: “Professor, please tell me now, because I will not fight my thoughts until tomorrow!”. And he said, “Where are you?” I replied that in the car, I was driving. I heard: “Then stop.” I felt so soft. I stopped under the bridge behind Jaworzno. He told me that the tests would have to be repeated because the first results are bad, I have quite a large malignant tumor.

The tumor was located between the shoulder blade and the armpit. Radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery were required. “I don’t have the same back as I used to,” admitted Durczok.

On March 8, the journalist appeared for the first time on “Wiadomości” without hair that fell out as a result of chemotherapy. “It is such a funny feeling, because you can see that everyone wants to behave normally, although in fact they are wondering if this guy will be with them in six months, or whether he will be on the calendar” – said Durczok.

After the treatment was completed, the disease resolved, but Kamil Durczok continued to do tests and was aware that the cancer could return.

Every day is a bit of a stress because you know the nature of cancer yourself. He can sleep for years, he can sleep for 12 years, and then he can wake up. You mustn’t think about it, and that’s it.
