The plant medicine Kalms contains hop cones and valerian, which have a calming effect on the central nervous system. The third herb that is part of the drug – yellow gentian also has a calming effect. The preparation is in the form of white, round sugar-coated tablets.

Apart from the active substances, which include hop cones, valerian and hop bitterness, Kalms contains maltodextrin and anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide. They are auxiliary substances that are included in the extracts. In turn, the core of the tablet consists of:
- corn starch,
- acacia gum,
- sucrose,
- stearic acid,
- sodium starch glycolate,
- magnesium stearate,
- colloidal silicon dioxide.
The shell includes:
- shellac varnish (shellac, pharmaceutical alcohols),
- sucrose,
- calcium carbonate,
- talk,
- acacia gum,
- titanium dioxide,
- mastercote white SP0950 G (titanium dioxide, sucrose, purified water, pharmaceutical alcohols).
Kalms – when should it be used?
The herbal drug Kalms can be taken by patients who have symptoms of nervous tension, as it relieves tension and emotions. The indication for the use of the preparation is also protection against stress recurrences that appear before falling asleep. In order for Kalms to be effective, it should be used over a longer period of time.
Kalms – dosage
Kalms can be taken by adults and children over the age of twelve. In the case of relieving the symptoms of stress stress, 1-3 tablets a day are used. The maximum dose is four tablets.
If we want to use Kalms as a sleep aid, we should take three tablets half an hour before bedtime. If necessary, a fourth tablet may be taken just before going to bed.

The herbal drug Kalms should be taken for at least four weeks, but if during this time there is no improvement or the patient experiences discomfort, see a doctor.
Due to the lack of detailed clinical data, the drug should not be administered to children under 12 years of age. Although Kalms contains sucrose, it can be taken by diabetics after consulting a doctor.
If you feel drowsy after taking Kalms, you should not drive or operate machinery.

The main contraindication to the use of the herbal drug Kalms is hypersensitivity to any of the active or excipients of the drug. Moreover, its use is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Due to the presence of sucrose in the composition of the drug, the herbal medicine cannot be taken by people suffering from rare hereditary diseases related to:
- fructose intolerance,
- galactose intolerance,
- lactose deficiency,
- glucose-galactose malabsorption,
- sucrose-isomaltase deficiency.
Kalms – side effects
The most common side effects reported by patients taking Kalms are gastrointestinal complaints:
- nausea,
- vomiting,
- abdominal pain,
- abdominal cramps.
Can Kalms be overdosed?
Valerian root extract can cause mild overdose symptoms, which include:
- abdominal cramps
- shaking hands
- pupil dilation,
- dizziness,
- tightness of the chest.
In the event of such occurrence, symptomatic treatment should be given (e.g. take activated charcoal).
Kalms – interactions with other drugs
The herbal drug Kalms should not be combined with other synthetic sedative drugs. In addition, no interactions with other metabolized drugs were observed in laboratory studies.

The plant medicine Kalms is best stored in a room with a maximum temperature of 25 degrees C. Therefore, the bathroom will be an ideal place. You should also remember that children should not have access to the medicine.
