Kadarka – light red wine from the grape variety of the same name. It was grown throughout the Danube Plain and was popular with famous composers like Franz Liszt and the Pope. It is believed to originate in Hungary, where it was once an important part of Eger’s red wine or bovine blood. Some places of its origin are near Skadar Lake on the border of Albania and Montenegro.

History of Kadarka

The origin of the variety is somewhat obscure. It appeared in the Balkan-Pannonian region, possibly around Lake Scutari on the Montenegrin-Albanian border, when the Turkish variety Papazkarasi was crossed with the local Serbian variety Skadarsko. Later, he ended up in Hungary when the Serbs, fleeing the Turks, migrated north, taking grapes with them. The Hungarians appropriated the vines, and by the 60th century, XNUMX% of the vineyards were given to them.

The main ingredient is the eponymous grape variety from the eastern part of Hungary. Only ripe berries are allowed to vinification. The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks. The temperature is carefully monitored.
