Just before Christmas, the main adviser to the Prime Minister on COVID-19, Prof. Andrzej Horban predicted that in connection with the Omikron variant in Poland, we can expect a million hospitalizations of patients with coronavirus. Jaroslaw Kaczynski said in an interview with Interia that when this scenario is fulfilled, he is ready to “go all out”, that is, introduce obligatory vaccinations. How realistic is this vision? For MedTvoiLokony, comments on the drug. Bartosz Fiałek.
- The Omikron variant is spreading throughout Poland. Experts predict that the fifth wave is about to come, triggered by this highly infectious mutation
- The Polish government is still cautious about the restrictions, while most countries in Europe strongly restrict civil liberties
- Jarosław Kaczyński says, however, that he is willing to introduce mandatory vaccinations among adult citizens

Kaczyński declares the possibility of introducing compulsory vaccinations against COVID-19
While almost all of Europe was closing due to the fourth wave of the Delta pandemic, there were practically no restrictions in Poland. Despite the high number of infections, the government has not decided to introduce more severe restrictions, known from previous lockdowns in our country.
Now, thanks to the interview that Jarosław Kaczyński gave to Interia, we learn that the PiS president is considering introducing compulsory vaccinations against COVID-19 among adult citizens.
– People have to get vaccinated, this is the basic issue. Considering the realities and the reluctance of a large part of society, we need to consider what we can do here. I am returning to the efficiency of the state: the courts are the last instance here – without reforming them, persuading them to obey the law, because that is what it is all about, it is difficult to change. This affects the functioning of the entire state at various levels and this must be taken into account, said Kaczyński.

The PiS president also said directly that when it comes to the pandemic, he is ready to “go all out”.
– Going all the way would be an obligation to vaccinate, although I’m afraid it would not be fully enforceable. But if the diagnoses of doctors who say that Omikron is much more contagious are correct, the epidemic will be so large that we will have to stand on our ears to prevent it. If what Professor Horban is saying is true, it would mean that we are facing a scenario in which the healthcare system collapses, followed by the economy, and open questions will be open as to whether the state will withstand it. In such a situation, I will be ready for anything – he added.

Prof. Horban says the tsunami is coming
Jarosław Kaczyński linked the possibility of introducing compulsory vaccinations against COVID-19 with the fulfillment of the black scenario of prof. Andrzej Horban. In an interview with Rzeczpospolita, he suggested that a real tsunami awaits us, which will affect unvaccinated people.
According to the specialist, we have to prepare for about a million hospitalizations among people infected with COVID-19.
– If we talk about the fact that about 12 million Poles have not been vaccinated, and all, I repeat, all of these people will be infected with the new variant, statistically 5-10 percent. of them will go to the hospital. So we should put about a million people. Even if it is spread over a few months, it still means that we may not need 20. covid beds, but 50-60 thousand. Not to mention where we will get the doctors and other medical staff – said prof. Horban.

Is the script of prof. Horban can come true? Comment on the drug. Bartosz Fiałek
The words of prof. Horban aroused mixed feelings among specialists. These visions are not, in their opinion, real.
«If only the catastrophic predictions of prof. Horban about a million patients requiring hospitalization did not work out! (I do not know where such analyzes come from …) »- writes prof. Wojciech Szczeklik – specialist in immunology.
A similar approach to these forecasts is also taken by the knowledge promoter, lek. Bartosz Fiałek.
– This is a completely unrealistic vision – he says in an interview with Medonet. – Currently, there are approx. 19 thousand hospitalized due to COVID-21. patients, in the peaks of previous waves of such cases there were approx. 30 thousand. But not a million. It is physically impossible for many reasons. The healthcare system would not be able to withstand such a burden, we do not have so many hospital beds in the country, let alone covid beds. The Polish health care system simply would not provide care for one million patients requiring a hospital stay. Also, I do not think that these numbers are realistic with the dangerous variant of the Omikron. In such a situation, we would have to record about 50 times more hospitalizations than today. This is not possible.
According to the doctor, compulsory vaccinations are absolutely necessary, but not very realistic, if their introduction depends on the fulfillment of such conditions.
– I am absolutely in favor of the obligation to vaccinate against COVID-19, especially in groups that are sensitive to the development of the pandemic, particularly at risk of severe course and death due to the disease, while conditioning the implementation of this solution from 1 million hospitalizations is bizarre – adds the expert.
