Juvit C is an oral drug in drops containing vitamin C. Juvit C is recommended in situations of vitamin C deficiency and for the prevention of diseases caused by vitamin C deficiency (such as scurvy with initial symptoms, Moeller-Barlow disease) when the diet contains insufficient vitamin C C – This problem affects infants who are not fed naturally.
Juvit C – indications
Juvit C is intended for the treatment of vitamin C deficiency and the prevention of diseases caused by vitamin C deficiency, especially scurvy and its initial symptoms, Moeller-Barlow disease, during convalescence, using a diet low in vitamin C, especially in artificially fed infants. .
Juvit C contains the active substance ascorbic acid (100 mg / 1 ml). In addition, auxiliary substances are included: glycerol disodium edetate, purified water.
Juvit C – mechanism of action
Juvit C contains vitamin C, which is involved in the oxidation and reduction metabolic processes that take place in the cells. It is necessary for the formation of collagen, elastin and intercellular substance, and thus for the proper development of cartilage, bones, teeth, wound healing, and increases the elasticity of capillaries.
It influences the formation of immune bodies in the body (it is believed to be involved in the production of immunoglobulins and interferon) and facilitates the absorption of iron in the gut. It is essential for the synthesis of adrenal steroids, catecholamines, insulin, and is involved in the transformation of aromatic amino acids and the metabolism of thyroxine.
After oral administration, ascorbic acid is rapidly and almost completely (approx. 90%) absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.

Juvit C – dosage
Follow your doctor’s instructions, but unless he is specifically told to do so, the dosage is as follows:
- children from 28 days of age to 24 months of age – 5 to 8 drops once a day, along with food or drink,
- children from 3 to 11 years of age – 10 drops once a day with food or drink,
- adolescents from 12 years of age and adults – 15 to 20 drops once a day (when the need is greater, twice the dose can be taken).
1 ml of the drug is equivalent to 20 drops. There is a risk of an overdose of the drug, so it should not be given to children from a bottle in the mouth.
Juvit C – contraindications
The drug may cause haemolysis of red blood cells in patients who are deficient in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. The drug should not be used in cases of allergy to ascorbic acid or any other component of Juvit C. Contraindication is oxalate nephrolithiasis. High doses of the drug are not recommended for patients for whom iron is absorbed too intensively from the gastrointestinal tract.
Do not use doses higher than recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The use of high doses of vitamin C during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended.

Juvit C – side effects
Vitamin C is usually well tolerated. Large doses, especially if used over a long period of time, can sometimes cause headaches, reddening of the skin, diuretic and also lead to the deposition of calcium oxalate and urate crystals in the urinary tract. Development of tolerance with symptoms of withdrawal deficiency (scurvy) and even dependence with headaches has also been observed after discontinuation.

Juvit C – precautions
Vitamin C administered in high doses may affect the results of laboratory tests, especially those performed with redox methods (false-positive urine glucose test, false-negative blood tests in the stool, underestimation of the activity of some enzymes).
Depending on the method used, it may either inflate or underestimate the results of the determination of the bilirubin content in the blood serum. In people with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, the product may cause haemolysis of red blood cells.
Before using the drug, consult a nurse, pharmacist or doctor.
Juvit C – interactions with other drugs
Administration of vitamin C with sulfonamides may lead to the precipitation of sulfonamide crystals in the urine. Vitamin C:
- increases iron absorption,
- extends the half-life of paracetamol in the blood,
- works synergistically with flavin glycosides,
- may increase the concentration of concomitantly used oestrogens in the blood serum.
Tetracyclines, oral contraceptives, barbiturates and high doses of acetylsalicylic acid reduce the concentration of ascorbic acid in the blood.
